Are you feeling a void in your heart for a long, low, mainstream sport sedan since the Kia Stinger departed a couple of years ago? Well, Honda has introduced a pair of grand touring-style four-door vehicles at this week’s Shanghai auto show, simply named the GT.

Their full titles are the GAC Honda GT and Dongfeng Honda GT, and as you might have guessed, they will only be available in China and are produced in partnership with GAC and Dongfeng, two state-owned Chinese car manufacturers. The GT twins represent the latest addition to the Ye Series, a lineup of electric Honda vehicles sold exclusively in China—unrelated to the controversial rapper of the same name.

Decidedly low and wide (Honda uses those exact terms in the press release), the GTs are impressively stylish on the outside, resembling a potential next-gen Accord that wouldn’t be out of place on American roads. However, the interior is quite tech-heavy; including the two digital rearview mirrors, there are a total of six screens. In our opinion, that's about three or four too many.

This perspective comes from a distinctly Western viewpoint, though. Due to the prevalent traffic jams in the country, many Chinese consumers perceive cars as a “third living space,” resulting in a greater demand for vehicles that enable them to do tasks typically done at their desks at home while on the go. I also have a theory that, since the personal automobile is relatively new for many in China, they lack the long-standing preconceived notions of what a car interior should and shouldn’t be that are common in the West.

In any case, other notable features of the Honda GT include a slightly oval steering wheel with subtle “Honda” text on the horn, along with a lot of similar controls seen in Hondas known in other markets, such as the buttons, switches, and the company’s button-based gear selection module. We wish Honda had shared more details regarding the GT’s performance to assess if it will genuinely live up to its name, but no specifications have been released yet. At least it appears stylish.
