2026 Mercedes CLA Unveils on March 13 Featuring More Star Lights Than Your Christmas Tree | Carscoops
The revamped CLA takes some design elements from the EQE and EQS, though the greenhouse design is less appealing.
The new generation 2026 Mercedes CLA has been spotted with minimal camouflage, showcasing its more refined look. This four-door coupe maintains a sleek design but features an awkward greenhouse. It will be available with hybrid and electric powertrains, as well as options for front-, rear-, and all-wheel drive.
Updated on 3/11: Mercedes has announced that the new CLA will have its world debut this Thursday, March 13, at 7 PM CET (2 PM EST). In addition to the announcement, the company released new teasers of the compact model, emphasizing the star-shaped lights, which appear prominently in the head and tail lights and across the front grille, where numerous small star-shaped lights illuminate.
The redesigned Mercedes CLA has become a recognizable presence over the past two years and is now closing in on its launch. The latest prototype has revealed more of its body, familiar yet influenced by designs from the EQE and EQS.
The changes are evident with a more streamlined body and flush door handles. However, the redesigned greenhouse appears awkward as the third quarter glass extends into the rear door, creating mismatched lines and an unappealing combination of shapes.
At the front and rear, star-themed lighting elements that have become characteristic of modern Mercedes vehicles are visible, accompanied by a single-bar grille and new bumpers.
The redesigned CLA is set to launch next year, built on the new Mercedes Modular Architecture. The company has shared various details in recent months and previously confirmed the electric version, which includes a rear-mounted motor generating 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS).
Customers can choose a 4Matic variant, which adds a 107 hp (80 kW / 109 PS) front motor. This motor only activates to provide additional power or traction as needed.
More information about the electric powertrain will be available closer to the launch, with Mercedes confirming that the CLA will feature an 800-volt electrical architecture and support DC fast charging up to 320 kW. There are also plans for an optional 85 kWh silicon oxide battery.
For those not convinced by electric options, there will be a new lineup of four-cylinder petrol engines. In the U.S., a hybrid powertrain will be offered, consisting of a 1.5-liter engine, a small battery, and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with an integrated electric motor, producing a total of 188 hp (140 kW / 190 PS), plus an additional 27 hp (20 kW / 27 PS) from the motor. Front-wheel drive will be standard, with all-wheel drive as an option.
In addition to the sedan, Mercedes is also working on the CLA Shooting Brake, a stylish station wagon version, which is expected to debut later this year, though like the current model, it may not be available in the U.S.
