A Cybertruck sank in Ventura Harbor, revealing some issues with Musk’s claims about its boating capabilities.

The owner was reportedly trying to launch a jet ski when the incident occurred.

Do you recall when Elon Musk made that almost unbelievable assertion that the Cybertruck would be “waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes, and even seas that aren’t too choppy” back in 2022? Classic Elon. Reality, however, has a way of correcting expectations.

As it turns out, the idea of a Cybertruck that could function as a boat was perhaps overly optimistic, and an unfortunate Tesla owner discovered this reality the hard way this week. On Monday morning, a Cybertruck was seen at the bottom of Ventura Harbor in California—much to the distress of its owner, who likely didn’t anticipate testing the truck’s “watertight” feature in such a manner.

      What Happened?

According to a fire battalion chief present at the scene who spoke to ABC7, the incident started when the owner seemingly attempted to launch a jet ski. In what could only be described as a remarkable miscalculation, the Cybertruck ended up sliding into the water instead. By the time emergency responders arrived, the truck had fully embraced its new aquatic environment and was completely submerged.

The good news? No one was inside the vehicle. The driver managed to escape before it sank, providing at least a small bit of optimism in an otherwise unfortunate situation.

A diver was sent in to attach a tow line to the truck. After some effort, the soaked electric vehicle was retrieved from the depths. As it emerged, water poured from every possible opening, including the driver’s window, which apparently was left open when the driver exited. So much for Musk’s boating aspirations.

Regarding the truck itself, you don’t need to be an engineer to realize that saltwater, electricity, and modern vehicles don’t mix well. It's safe to say that this particular Cybertruck isn't going to recover from this incident.
