This was the second S2K owned by the original owner, who was already using a red one as her daily driver.

The auction house anticipated that the car would sell for anywhere between $60,000 and $80,000.

In North America, it is typically only the rare Honda S2000 CR models that fetch such high prices.

The saying “they don’t make them like they used to” is often heard in the automotive community—sometimes unjustly, sometimes accurately. However, when it pertains to truly exceptional, back-to-basics sports cars, it often rings true. While there are still some fantastic affordable sports cars available, like the Toyota GR86 and Mazda MX-5, some drivers find them overly technical and lacking that genuine, classic appeal.

This is where a JDM icon like the Honda S2000 shines. Although many of Honda’s most iconic performance vehicles have been front-wheel-drive hot hatches, the S2000 stood out as a rear-wheel-drive roadster that captured global attention. Even though production ceased over 15 years ago, the demand for well-preserved S2000s continues to be robust. Recently, one was sold for an astonishing $95,000.

Broad Arrow Auctions managed the sale of this 2000MY Honda S2000, making it one of the most expensive non-CR models sold at public auction. The primary factor contributing to its nearly six-digit price is its remarkably low mileage—only 42 miles (67 km). This likely makes it one of the lowest-mileage examples still in the United States.

Considering it has hardly been driven in the last 25 years, it's no surprise that it appears just as pristine now as it did when it rolled off the assembly line. It is finished in Silverstone Metallic with a black interior, featuring a color combination that was popular (if not particularly bold) when the car was new.

The car was initially sold through Drum Honda in New York and was first owned by a woman who already had a red S2000 as her daily vehicle—because one simply wasn’t sufficient. This specific example has remained unaltered, looking as if it has been kept in a time capsule for 25 years. The auction house had projected a final sale price between $60,000 and $80,000, but bidders had different plans.

Clearly, someone was eager to acquire it and was prepared to pay a premium. We are unaware of what the new owner intends to do with their pristine S2K, but hopefully, they will drive and enjoy it rather than relegating it to a garage queen and waiting for it to appreciate further before selling it for a profit.
