It Requires Courage to Push the 1,578HP Bugatti Bolide to Its Limits | Carscoops
Top Gear's Ollie Marriage evaluated Bugatti's 1,578 hp, track-exclusive hypercar at the Paul Ricard circuit in France, revealing his insights.
This powerhouse is equipped with an 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine that generates 1,578 horsepower, while the Bolide's weight is noticeably lighter than that of the Chiron it is derived from. Production of this hypercar will be restricted to only 40 units.
The Bugatti Bolide represents the pinnacle of multi-million dollar track cars. Built upon the Chiron's platform, it features entirely new lightweight bodywork, and with only 40 units set for production, many will be stored away by collectors. Recently, Top Gear had the opportunity to drive one on the racetrack.
Ollie Marriage visited the Paul Ricard circuit in France to test the Bolide alongside Bugatti's chief test driver, Andy Wallace. Driving such a rare hypercar can be daunting for many, but Marriage embraced the experience and pushed the car to its limits.
Similar to the Chiron Super Sport, the Bolide’s 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine produces 1,578 hp and 1,180 lb-ft (1,600 Nm) of torque. However, while the Chiron Super Sport weighs around 2,000 kg (4,400 lbs), the Bolide comes in at just 1,450 kg (3,197 lbs). This significant weight difference enables it to accelerate fiercely along the straight and out of corners at Paul Ricard.
According to Marriage, the Bolide’s acceleration is comparable to that of the Koenigsegg Jesko, which boasts up to 1,600 hp and weighs approximately 100 kg (220 lbs) less than the Bugatti. Unlike the Jesko, which struggles to transfer its power effectively to the ground, the Bolide's all-wheel drive system offers exceptional traction, allowing the driver to accelerate early and fully utilize the grip from the slick tires.
As part of the ownership experience, Bolide owners will receive invitations from Bugatti to take their vehicles to exclusive track events worldwide, similar to Ferrari's XX program.
