KGM Musso: Korea's First Electric Pickup Truck | Carscoops
Korea's first completely electric pickup truck will be launched in various global markets, including Europe, the UK, and Australia.
The KGM Musso EV has been introduced in Korea as the production version of the O100 concept.
This electric pickup utilizes the same unibody chassis as the KGM Torres EVX SUV.
It is equipped with a 204 hp electric motor and an 80.6 kWh battery provided by BYD.
KG Mobility, previously known as SsangYong, has officially introduced the Musso EV compact pickup in Korea, signaling its upcoming global release. This model is the inaugural offering under the Musso sub-brand, which will comprise both electric and combustion-engine trucks. It is also notable for being the first fully electric pickup truck produced by a Korean manufacturer.
Sturdy Design with Recognizable Features
The Musso EV takes design elements from the Torres EVX SUV but has a longer body, an open cargo area, and more rugged characteristics ideal for pickup use. It comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels and a utility roof rack, while a rear canopy is available as an option. Buyers can also choose additional features such as a sunroof, skid plate, cargo divider, sliding bed, and roll bar, providing a variety of customization options.
Interior photos have not been shared, but the dashboard is anticipated to closely resemble that of the Torres EVX, boasting dual 12.3-inch displays. Other notable features include an Alpine audio system, intelligent adaptive cruise control, and a 3D surround-view monitoring system.
Built on an extended version of the Torres EVX’s unibody chassis, the Musso EV is driven by a single electric motor generating 204 hp (152 kW / 207 PS). Power is sent to the front wheels standardly, with an all-wheel-drive option available for those requiring added traction.
It is powered by an 80.6 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) blade battery pack supplied by BYD. KGM claims the 2WD version can achieve a range of up to 401 km (249 miles) on a single charge. Although other powertrain options have not been detailed, the company has confirmed that ICE versions of the Musso will be introduced to the lineup soon.
The KGM Musso EV is already available for order in Korea, ahead of its introduction in additional markets including Europe, the UK, and Australia.
Competitive Pricing
In its home country, the pickup starts at ₩48 million (approximately $33,500 based on current exchange rates), but with local EV incentives, the price for small business owners can decrease to as low as ₩33 million ($23,000). This positions it directly against the ICE-powered KGM Rexton Sports pickup, which currently begins at ₩29.52 million ($20,600) after a recent discount.
KGM highlights that the Musso EV will offer further savings due to its low operational and maintenance costs. Specifically, the estimated driving cost for the Musso EV over five years is around ₩5.8 million ($4,000), which is ₩14 million ($9,700) less than that of the ICE-powered equivalent.
