New Subaru WRX tS Spec B Introduces STI Styling and Manual Transmission in Australia | Carscoops
The Subaru WRX tS Spec B is a new model joining the Australian lineup for 2025, representing the peak of the range. It features a 6-speed manual transmission paired with a 2.4-liter turbo flat-4 engine.
This new variant of the WRX is set to launch later this year and is designed to appeal to driving enthusiasts with a sportier aesthetic and, notably, a manual transmission. Previously, Australian consumers had only been offered a CVT option, making the introduction of the tS Spec B significant for those seeking a more engaging driving experience.
The tS Spec B will be powered by the well-known turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-4 engine, integrated with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. Although Subaru has not yet released official specifications, it's anticipated that the engine will generate the same output of 271 hp (202 kW / 275 PS) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque as the standard WRX tS.
Visually, the tS Spec B closely resembles the North American Spec tS, featuring quad tailpipes, Recaro seats, and matte grey 19-inch alloy wheels. It distinguishes itself further with a prominent rear wing, similar to that found on the Japanese-spec STI Sport trim and Australia’s previous WRX Club Spec Edition.
The Spec B also incorporates electronically-controlled suspension and is fitted with Brembo brakes that include ventilated discs and gold calipers.
Subaru Australia’s General Manager, Scott Lawrence, expressed enthusiasm for the new WRX AWD tS Spec B, stating that this is just an initial preview of what's to come, with more details to be shared soon.
Pricing for the Subaru WRX tS Spec B is yet to be revealed but is expected to exceed the WRX tS Sport Lineartronic’s cost of AU$63,552 (US$40,600). This new manual variant will compete against models such as the Toyota GR Corolla and the Honda Civic Type R.
Earlier this year, Subaru launched the limited-production WRX STI S210 in Japan, which boasts a more powerful 2.4-liter engine with 296 hp (221 kW / 300 PS) and a refined chassis setup. However, the S210 is only available with a CVT, despite being the top-performing WRX model equipped with all the STI features.
