Equipped with 615 hp and a range of 303 miles, the Blazer EV SS aims to herald a new age of performance.

Chevrolet is finally preparing to introduce the Blazer EV SS after a prolonged delay.

This model features 615 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds.

The starting price is $62,490, and the electric crossover comes with an EPA-estimated range of 303 miles.

Almost three years have elapsed since Chevrolet first revealed the Blazer EV SS, and you may have forgotten about it, as it was initially expected to launch in late 2023. However, the crossover is set to finally go on sale later this quarter.

Continuing the legacy of the Trailblazer SS, the Blazer EV SS is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that produces 615 hp (459 kW / 624 PS) and 650 lb-ft (880 Nm) of torque. This surpasses earlier predictions of 557 hp (415 kW / 565 PS) and 648 lb-ft (878 Nm).

If that output sounds recognizable, it's because it's the same as that of the Cadillac Lyriq-V as well as the Vistiq. This means buyers will receive performance levels akin to Cadillac for a Chevrolet price of $62,490, including destination charges. In comparison, the Lyriq-V costs $79,990.

In addition to being relatively accessible, the crossover can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 96 km/h) in 3.4 seconds in Wide Open Watts mode. This is just a tenth of a second slower than the Cadillac and comparable to the less powerful Jeep Wagoneer S. It significantly outpaces the Trailblazer SS, which took 5.4 seconds to reach 60 mph (96 km/h) with its 6.0-liter V8 generating 395 hp (295 kW / 400 PS) and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm) of torque.

Aside from its performance, the Blazer EV SS boasts an EPA-estimated range of 303 miles (488 km), tying with the Jeep and surpassing the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT's range of 280 miles (451 km).

To commemorate its launch, the Blazer EV SS will serve as the official pace car for this weekend’s Daytona 500. The car remains completely stock apart from custom graphics and built-in strobe lights.

Additionally, Chevrolet will present a Blazer EV.R NASCAR Prototype at the event. While details are limited, this model “represents a collaborative effort between NASCAR and OEM partners, aimed at exploring new and emerging automotive technologies.”

Though not much information is available, teaser images reveal a large rear wing and lightweight windows. There’s also a quick-release hood and a front end that resembles the road-going version.

Considering that NASCAR is not particularly known for embracing electric vehicles, GM Performance and Motorsports vice president Jim Campbell emphasized, “Chevrolet V8 engines continue to play a crucial role in NASCAR.” He also stated, “Racing has always been a vital platform for Chevrolet to test, learn, and explore new technologies.”
