Dodge CEO Matt McAlear has stated that the V8 is no longer viewed negatively since Carlos Tavares has departed.

Establishing a new Hemi-powered lineup is complicated due to political and compliance hurdles.

The Hornet GLH concept is set to move into production, while the 5.7-liter V8 could potentially be manufactured in Michigan.

The Dodge Charger Daytona has made its debut but has not been well received, as the 'brotherhood of muscle' shows little interest in an expensive electric muscle car. Consequently, it's not unusual to see new vehicles advertised at $10,000 below the MSRP.

Support is on the horizon with the arrival of a twin-turbo 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six engine this summer, though enthusiasts are still craving Hemi power. This desire persists even though the six-cylinder engine exceeds the previous 5.7- and 6.4-liter V8s, delivering 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS) and 550 hp (410 kW / 558 PS), respectively.

With Tavares no longer in charge, the speculation surrounding the V8 has intensified. In a conversation with The Drive, McAlear remarked, “one of the encouraging aspects is that with the leadership change, V8s are no longer a taboo subject within the company.”

Nonetheless, the 5.7-, 6.2-, and 6.4-liter V8s are becoming dated, and McAlear suggested there are compliance challenges. He also pointed out that while President Trump is inclined to ease regulations, his tenure is limited to four years, which isn't much time considering it takes about two years to develop a new engine.

While this raises concerns about the introduction of a new Hemi, McAlear mentioned that the recently launched Charger Daytona has yet to unveil the SRT variant. He added, “We’re just getting started. We’re going to have a lot of fun.”

In addition to discussing Hemi power, McAlear informed The Drive that a production version of the Hornet GLH concept is on its way and should be released later this year. Although the concept may not have made a strong impression, it showcased distinctive graphics, a dual exhaust system, and 20-inch wheels.

Returning to Hemi power, Mopar Insiders recently reported that a “trusted source” indicated Stellantis is preparing to resume production of the 5.7-liter V8. If this information is accurate, production will be relocated from Mexico to Dundee, Michigan. The report further mentions that the engine could be installed in both the Dodge Durango and the Ram 1500.
