Have you heard? EVs are finished. Yet, it seems nobody informed the Ford Mustang Mach-E. Despite a noticeable decline after the electrification incentives lapsed in Q3, the all-electric crossover again outperformed its gasoline counterpart by a substantial margin—almost 14 percent—in 2025.
In fact, when examining the year-end statistics, 2024 and 2025 were nearly the same. Ford sold just over 51,000 Mach-E units in 2025 (only 125 less than in 2024), while the traditional coupe saw sales of just over 45,000 (a decrease of around 700 units from 2024). The primary distinction is that Ford concentrated most of the Mach-E sales in the first three quarters of 2025. In contrast, its 2024 sales were more evenly distributed throughout the year, despite the nearly identical ending figures.
With the F-150 Lightning discontinued, the Mach-E is now the sole pure electric Ford available for mass consumers. The only battery-powered vehicle alongside it in the showroom is the E-Transit, which primarily targets small logistics companies. It's unlikely that the electric delivery van will see a replacement in the U.S. market when the current model is phased out, although nothing stops Ford from considering a hybrid option in the future rather than returning to solely gasoline models.
However, Ford hasn't abandoned electric vehicles. When the company announced the discontinuation of the Lightning and E-Transit, it also revealed plans to develop an affordable, mass-market electric pickup. We anticipate it will share more features with the compact Maverick than the full-size Lightning, and given America's preference for utility vehicles (and affection for the Maverick), this approach could be successful. After all, nobody anticipated the success of the Maverick either, right?
