Just a few years back, Jeep promoted the Wrangler 4xe as the top-selling plug-in hybrid in America and a symbol of a new electrification plan. Now, it has been discontinued, along with all other plug-in models from Stellantis in the United States.

You read that right: Jeep and Chrysler have officially halted the production of their respective plug-in hybrid models. By the end of the 2025 model year, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, and Chrysler Pacifica PHEV will all be officially discontinued—not just paused or shelved. They are gone for good.

“Stellantis continually assesses its product strategy to adapt to changing customer demands and regulatory requirements,” a Stellantis representative informed The Drive via email. “As customer preferences shift, Stellantis will phase out plug-in hybrid (PHEV) programs in North America starting with the 2026 model year and will concentrate on more competitive electrified options, including hybrids and range-extended vehicles where they best align with customer needs.”

“This strategy emphasizes the company’s dedication to providing advanced propulsion systems that optimize efficiency and offer choices from internal combustion to hybrid range-extended and fully electric solutions,” the spokesperson added.

Following a tip from a reader, The Drive reported on Monday that the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee 4xes had both been removed from their “Build and Price” tools on Jeep’s website. After our original story was published, a Jeep representative confirmed that an active stop-sale was still in effect on all 4xe models due to ongoing recall campaigns but did not clarify their disappearance from the website. Now we understand the reason for their removal.

This indicates a decisive shift away from current plug-in hybrid architectures within the company’s U.S. lineup. Moving forward, the company will concentrate its electrification endeavors on range-extended EVs and standard series hybrids. This implies that the range-extended Ram EV (along with any unannounced products utilizing the same architecture) remains in development.
