The electric BMW iX4 has been spotted testing ahead of its official launch this year.
This coupe-like crossover shares design elements with the recently unveiled iX3 SUV.
A dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration is expected to provide 463 hp and impressive speed.
If you appreciated the BMW iX3 but desired a more athletic and less utilitarian version, you're in luck, as spy photographers have captured images of the new iX4.
Spotted during testing in Europe, the electric crossover takes cues from its more traditional SUV sibling, the newly launched iX3. This is evident at the front, featuring a vertical twin kidney grille accompanied by BMW's new “horizontal light signature.”
**Coupe-Inspired Design**
Further back, the iX4 showcases a sharply angled windscreen that merges into a dramatically sloped roof. This sportier profile results in new door designs and a reduced greenhouse area. Additionally, a rounded shoulder contrasts with the squared-off wheel arches.
The rear uniquely defines the crossover coupe, incorporating a spoiler with an integrated third brake light, which appears non-functional on the prototype. The model also departs from the iX3 by omitting a rear windshield wiper.
Despite these differences, much of the design still resonates with its counterpart, as familiar taillights can be seen beneath the camouflage. The rear bumper also resembles that of the iX3, though it’s difficult to confirm due to the camouflage.
Spy photographers did not capture the interior, but it is likely to mirror the iX3, featuring a pillar-to-pillar Panoramic iDrive display and a 17.9-inch infotainment system. Anticipated features include a cutting-edge steering wheel, a 3D head-up display, and an intelligent personal assistant.
**Performance Expectations**
Performance-wise, the iX4 50 xDrive will likely feature a dual-motor all-wheel drive system, yielding a total output of 463 hp (345 kW / 469 PS) and 476 lb-ft (645 Nm) of torque. This allows the iX4 to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.7 seconds, reaching a top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h).
The motors draw power from a 108.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, offering a WLTP range of up to 500 miles (805 km). The remarkable specifications extend to a 400 kW DC fast charging capability, enabling the battery to charge from 10-80% in just 21 minutes.
Additional variants are also anticipated, which will be previewed through forthcoming iX3 derivatives.
