Honda Has Increased Civic Type R Prices By $4,100 Since 2023 Without Any Modifications | Carscoops

Honda has raised the price of its latest Civic Type R model yet again.

The hot hatch is now priced at $46,895, in addition to $1,195 for destination fees.

No visual or mechanical enhancements have been confirmed for the 2026 model.

There was a time when the Civic Type R felt pricey in a way that could be justified, living in a realm that, while not cheap, still felt reasonable. However, the new 2026 pricing shifts it into a different mental category—one that isn't outrageous, but high enough to make you think twice before committing.

For the upcoming model year, the base price of the Civic Type R is set at $46,895, with an additional $1,195 for destination fees, bringing the total to $48,090 before any optional features or markups. This represents a $1,000 increase from the previous year and is $4,100 higher than the debut price of $42,895 for the 2023 model year, which had a lower destination fee of $1,095.

      What’s Behind the Price Increase?

As of now, there are no confirmed mechanical or aesthetic changes, and nothing appears to have been significantly upgraded, although Honda has yet to release full details for the 2026 model. However, one thing is clear: the price has undeniably risen.

That base figure of $48,090 is already approaching the psychological barrier of $50,000, and that’s before opting for additional features. By adding the classic Championship White, the aero kit, the interior upgrade, and the protection bundle, you could easily find yourself looking at a total that is closer to $60,000 than $50,000. Such an amount could easily buy you a nice, used Corvette Stingray.

      Costly, But Not the Priciest

Still, it’s important to consider the context. The Golf R now starts at over $50,000, and while it may accelerate faster and has all-wheel drive, it is also pricier and no longer offers a manual transmission option. In contrast, the Type R still includes a manual as standard, which adds value for certain enthusiasts, far beyond any drift mode.

The Toyota GR Corolla is less expensive, starting at just $41,115 with delivery, and like the Golf R, offers all-wheel drive with a manual option. However, the Civic Type R excels in combining the roles of a daily driver, road trip car, weekend project, and track-ready vehicle. Among the three, it is the one we would choose.

      At Least It’s Still Available

American buyers might consider themselves fortunate, despite the rising price of the Civic. This is mainly because the Type R’s fate has already been sealed in Europe, where it’s being phased out due to strict emissions regulations that disregard heritage and loyal fanbases.

The fact that Honda continues to certify, sell, and support the Type R in the US indicates that they view this vehicle as more than just a niche product. Even with its new, elevated price, it is likely to continue attracting a significant number of buyers who recognize its uniqueness.
