The classic Ferrari supercar undergoes a bold, widebody concept transformation featuring flared wheel arches, LED lighting, and a tuner aesthetic that may not sit well with purists.

This F40 concept introduces flared arches and refreshed front and rear designs.

Fully Leaded’s redesign fuses tuner aggressiveness with the car's classic silhouette.

The addition of LED lights, a new diffuser, and a widebody kit gives it a striking, contemporary appearance.

Ferrari’s recent SC40 one-off draws some inspiration from the iconic F40, although it may not do so in the clear or convincing manner that enthusiasts might desire. If Maranello aimed to create a modern supercar that captures the F40’s profile with greater precision, it could resemble this concept. However, such an endeavor would likely provoke debate among loyal Ferrari fans.

Before forming any opinions on why someone would take the original F40 and transform it into this radical design, it's important to clarify that these are merely detailed design concepts with no intentions for production.

Developed by the design team at Fully Leaded, this concept takes the essence of the original Ferrari supercar and reinterprets it through a bolder, tuner-influenced perspective. It pays homage to Liberty Walk’s more extreme designs, showcasing sharper features and significantly less restraint.

The front is designed to appear lower and wider, featuring a newly shaped bumper, a complex splitter, and enlarged cooling intakes. LED headlights have replaced the traditional pop-up units, and the hood has been streamlined to match the aggressive look.

The changes made to the sides are especially striking. Besides the flared front wheel arches, the original NACA ducts have been removed in favor of a large single air intake to provide the engine with cool air. The rear haunches enhance the car's formidable road presence.

At the rear, the transformation continues with a sweeping wing that extends over the back and a large motorsport-style diffuser. The tailpipes have also been upgraded. Even the original F40 taillights have been updated, now featuring slim LED designs that eliminate any lingering nostalgia from the '80s.

So far, no one has ventured to use an F40 as the base for a complete restomod. However, about a year ago, a small Italian firm announced plans for a range of upgrades to the vehicle, including enhanced suspension, improved brakes, and new wheels and tires.

Liberty Walk previously created a widebody iteration a few years ago, though that version remained relatively true to the classic formula.

This raises an intriguing question: should a creation like this ever be realized? Or is the F40 one of those rare icons best preserved in its original form?
