The Most Disliked Feature of the Cybertruck Continues to Underperform, and Winter Has Made It Even Worse | Carscoops

The 4-foot windshield wiper designed for the Cybertruck continues to malfunction, despite recalls, updates, and an alternative version that failed to resolve the issues.

Cybertruck owners have expressed frustration since the vehicle's launch, stating that the wiper's contact is inadequate, impairing its cleaning effectiveness. Tesla has acknowledged that the wiper's performance is currently under investigation.

Two years have passed since Tesla started delivering the Cybertruck to consumers, yet the company is still tackling one of the persistent design challenges—its large single windshield wiper.

Despite previous attempts to rectify the situation through mechanical and software modifications, Tesla is reportedly developing a third iteration of the wiper system to finally resolve these ongoing issues.

A recent incident in the US brought this problem to light. When a Cybertruck owner took their vehicle for service, Tesla's response indicated that the “wiper performance is under active Engineering investigation,” as stated by the company’s service department.

What Issues Exist with the Wiper Blade?

From the moment deliveries began, complaints from owners arose. Although the wiper's 4-foot blade is the largest installed on any commercial vehicle, users have reported several issues, including inadequate blade contact in the middle and at the top of the stroke, improper stowing at high speeds, and problems with washer fluid.

Performance worsens in colder climates, where salt, slush, and snow can overwhelm the system. Some owners have also pointed out that the wiper sometimes fails to clear the area in front of the forward-facing FSD cameras.

One post on X expressed the growing frustration:

"I love the Cybertruck but hate the wiper system. Tesla must provide a voluntary service to offer a free upgraded/redesigned wiper arm and sprayer. This isn’t a one-time issue; it happens every time we encounter salt/slush and snow. It's extremely unsafe. There were several moments today on I-70..."

Updates Have Not Resolved the Issue

In June 2024, Tesla recalled the wiper motors and rolled out software updates intended to enhance the blade’s movement and its stowing position when not in use. A revised V2 blade has been added to many trucks, yet this version appears to have its own reliability issues.

The full details of Tesla’s engineering investigation, initially reported by Not a Tesla App, have not been released. It remains uncertain how long the company has been working on a solution or when an update might be forthcoming.

There’s speculation regarding a significant redesign. According to NotebookCheck, the original self-driving Cybercab concept showcased a single wiper blade, akin to the Cybertruck. However, a newer prototype, thought to be nearing production, was recently spotted with a more conventional twin-wiper configuration. This has led to suggestions that the Cybertruck may adopt a similar setup.
