Kia's EV2 Transitions From Concept to Certainty on January 9 | Carscoops

The brand's smallest electric vehicle (EV) makes its production debut at the Brussels Motor Show.

We will have our first glimpse of the final Kia EV2 SUV on January 9. This subcompact utility vehicle is set to compete against Renault’s 4 E-Tech and is anticipated to be priced around €30,000 (£26,000) when sales commence.

Kia is making significant progress in its efforts to cover almost every segment of the EV market with the introduction of its smallest model. Although we saw the EV2 in concept form earlier this year, we will now find out how much of that design has transitioned to the production model.

The well-known Korean brand did not provide extensive details regarding the production version of this compact SUV this week, except to announce its scheduled reveal at the Brussels Motor Show and confirm that it will be manufactured in Europe for local consumers.

Kia did share three teaser images; while the car is draped in a cover in each, we can observe some differences between the production EV2 and the concept initially showcased at Kia EV Day 2025. Fortunately, the overall shape and robust proportions remain consistent.

      Notable Design Elements

We can observe the squared-off front end, the kink in the waistline, a slightly sporty slope on the rear roof section, and a spoiler atop the rear hatch. These features were also present in the EV2 concept. Though the production model’s daytime running lights (DRLs) are somewhat different, they are still similar.

However, there are significant changes. The front overhang appears longer, as conceptual designs do not have to adhere to crash regulations, unlike production vehicles. Additionally, there seems to be a conventional B-pillar.

Kia asserts that the EV2 will offer “roomy, adjustable space,” but we will need to wait until January 9 to learn the specifics. In the concept version, passengers could enjoy comfort by folding down the rear seats and sliding the front bench back, allowing them to stretch out and sit on the flat floor when parked.

All-Wheel Drive Appearance, Front-Wheel Drive Reality

Further details regarding power and range will also be revealed at the launch. Based on information from Kia’s other budget-friendly electric models, it is expected to feature 400-volt charging rather than 800-volt. Despite its all-wheel-drive aesthetics, the vehicle will likely have a single motor powering the front wheels, even in sporty GT versions.

The closely related Hyundai Inster offers options for 39 kWh and 46 kWh batteries, with a range of 203-229 miles (327-369 km) and its largest motor producing just 113 hp (114 PS / 84 kW). We hope Kia’s variant delivers slightly more performance. The EV2 is set to go on sale in 2026, with Kia targeting a price of €30,000 (£26,000 / $35,000) to compete with other electric SUVs like the Renault 4 E-Tech.

The images below showcase the EV2 Concept, which was unveiled at Kia Day in February 2025.
