      At the ongoing Guangzhou Auto Show in China, Kia has revealed an exciting new concept that signifies a forthcoming production model. Dubbed the EV5 Weekender, it offers a more robust, adventure-ready interpretation of the compact electric SUV.

      The EV5 is the fourth vehicle from Kia to adopt the Weekender label, following the EV9, PV5, and Tasman. Each model in this lineup presents a unique outdoor-inspired variant.

      None of the Weekender concepts have yet reached production, but this could change as consumers increasingly seek rugged, lifestyle-focused options.

      Outdoor Ambitions

      Developed by the Kia China Style Design Team, the concept's external modifications are immediately noticeable. It features larger wheels fitted with all-terrain tires and a lifted suspension that provides enhanced ground clearance and a more assertive appearance.

      The SUV showcases a matte beige exterior with lime green accents, a color scheme that has become emblematic of the Weekender series. Additionally, it includes a revamped body kit with wider fender extensions, new skid plates, more robust side skirts, a hood insert, and a prominently positioned roof rack.

      Kia has even integrated specific mounts on one side of the vehicle for extra equipment, echoing features found on the Land Rover Defender.

      Functional Updates Inside

      The interior has undergone more significant modifications than expected for a concept based on an existing production SUV. The expanded display now stretches across the passenger area and is complemented by a streamlined digital instrument cluster.

      Other enhancements comprise a redesigned steering wheel, an updated center console, reshaped climate vents, and new upholstery featuring modern colors and a 3D texture.

      The cabin includes practical elements akin to Dacia’s YouClip system, with cup holders and storage compartments positioned along the sides of the cargo area, as well as additional rails on the roof liner for securing equipment.

      What Lies Beneath

      Kia has not revealed the technical details of the concept, leaving it unclear if it has any mechanical differences from the production EV5 beyond its upgraded suspension.

      The EV5 utilizes the E-GMP platform and is offered in both FWD and AWD configurations, with various battery options available depending on the region. A GT variant has been confirmed for production, promising a more powerful powertrain and sportier handling.

      It wouldn’t be surprising if the production EV5 lineup eventually includes a toned-down version of the Weekender concept for those who enjoy camping or off-road adventures. Kia has a track record of transforming its concepts into actual models, and this one seems poised to follow suit.
