Porsche's Hidden Workshop Revived This Manual Cayenne V8 | Carscoops
A 2009 Cayenne GTS has been rejuvenated through a unique factory restoration program that transforms neglected classics into exquisite masterpieces.
Porsche has restored a 2009 Cayenne GTS under its Sonderwunsch program. The SUV features Blackolive paint paired with matte black wheels and off-road tires. The interior is adorned with English green leather, Pasha fabric, and olive accents.
Porsche’s Sonderwunsch division, known for crafting some of the most high-spec Porsches, goes beyond just fulfilling customer requests for special paint jobs. In this instance, it has revived an unexpected gem: a first-generation Cayenne GTS that has undergone a thorough restoration through the Sonderwunsch Factory Re-Commission program, restoring the SUV with meticulous attention to detail.
What distinguishes this Cayenne GTS is its combination of a 405hp 4.8-liter V8 engine and a six-speed manual transmission, a rare option selected by few buyers at the time. This rarity has only increased over time, highlighted by a recent auction where a manual 2014 Cayenne V6 fetched $125,000.
This specific build belongs to American entrepreneur and car collector Phillip Sarofim. He provided Porsche with a 2009 Cayenne GTS with approximately 50,000 miles, allowing the team complete creative freedom, except for one firm request: the SUV must have a towbar for transporting his Airstream caravan.
The uniqueness of this SUV is further enhanced by its Paint to Sample Blackolive color, giving it a nostalgic feel that suits the vehicle perfectly. Additionally, the lower body and wheels are finished in matte black and fitted with new all-terrain tires.
Porsche showcased the specially restored Cayenne GTS at the largest car festival in the Middle East. The interior has been reupholstered with English green leather and Pasha-pattern fabric in black and olive hues. Even the glove box interior features the same patterned fabric, while the door handles, frames, and surrounding trim are crafted from light-brushed aluminum, offering a subtle yet clean contrast.
According to Alexander Fabig, Porsche’s Vice President of Individualization and Classic, the project broadens the scope of the Sonderwunsch program. “Up until now, we have primarily executed such intricate Factory Re-Commission projects for classic Porsches or rare models like the Carrera GT,” he stated. “The fact that we have restored a 16-year-old Cayenne to the condition of a new car and created a truly unique piece illustrates the diverse aspirations of Porsche enthusiasts. It also reaffirms the iconic status of the Cayenne.”
The Sonderwunsch program is structured into three categories. Factory Commission is for buyers customizing new cars with distinctive colors or trims. Factory Re-Commission, as shown here, allows owners to return older models to the factory for a complete rebuild. Finally, Factory One-Off designs new parts for completely customized, one-of-a-kind creations.
While Porsche does not disclose specific pricing details, a company representative informed Carscoops that prices “vary depending on the vehicle and the extent of work requested by the customer.”
However, it is not uncommon for these projects to exceed six figures beyond the value of the base vehicle. Timelines are also flexible, with the duration “depending again on the vehicle and the scope of work requested by the customer.”
For those who have the means and patience to realize their vision, Porsche welcomes inquiries from anyone interested in creating their dream vehicle. Interested individuals can contact them directly.
