Brabus Created the Most Extreme G-Class Cabriolet Available for a Million | Carscoops
If you're interested in a 789 hp off-road vehicle with a soft top and 18.9 inches of ground clearance, your search ends here.
Brabus has unveiled the new 800 and 800 XL G-Class Cabrios, each featuring a widebody kit, a retractable soft top, and 789 hp. The starting price is $877,000, while the 800 XL may exceed $1 million.
Mercedes is developing a new G-Class Cabrio, but if you can't wait, Brabus has introduced the 800 and 800 XL Cabrio.
Based on the Mercedes-AMG G63, both models come with a "highly complex" retractable soft top made up of over 500 custom components. This impressive design allows the two-piece roof to open and close in 20 seconds at the touch of a button. Additionally, buyers will benefit from a heated glass rear window.
The conversion process posed challenges, as the vehicles include a reinforced windshield frame and a carbon fiber bow that "ensures the roof contour remains unchanged even at high speeds."
Furthermore, the Cabrio incorporates a rear roll bar and a soft top cover to protect the roof while it's down for extended durations.
Customization and Performance
Beyond the soft top, the 800 features a custom tailgate and a Widestar body kit, complemented by 24-inch Monoblock ZM wheels fitted with Hankook Ventus S1 Evo ZX high-performance tires. The model is also equipped with sport springs that lower the ride height by 0.8 to 1.6 inches (20-40 mm).
Inside, the enhancements include a bespoke leather interior, carbon fiber paddle shifters, and an Airscarf system, along with carbon fiber trim and ample Brabus branding.
Powertrain Details
The engine is a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, tuned to deliver 789 hp (588 kW / 800 PS) and 737 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque. It pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive system, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just four seconds, reaching an electronically capped top speed of 149 mph (240 km/h).
The Enhanced XL Variant
The 800 XL shares similar features but is designed for more rugged terrains than just clubs in Monte Carlo. It includes a specially designed portal axle suspension system that offers 18.9 inches (480 mm) of ground clearance. This variant rides on smaller 22-inch wheels with all-terrain tires.
These modifications affect performance; the 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) time increases to 4.6 seconds, and the top speed drops to 130 mph (210 km/h).
Production will be limited to 50 units each, with the pricing for the 800 starting at approximately $877,350 (€761,500). The showcased 800 XL is priced at $1 million (€887,600), though the final price will vary based on options and specifications.
