While some car manufacturers are beginning to reintroduce buttons and knobs, Tesla continues to resist. Historically, Tesla vehicles have lacked physical controls, dating back to the original Model S, which notably initiated the trend of large touchscreens dominating dashboards. However, that hasn’t deterred owners and the aftermarket from seeking solutions. Enter Greenmission, a Norwegian startup that has launched a stick-and-play bar designed to provide Tesla owners with the controls they’ve been missing.

If you are familiar with the Tesla modification community, you might already know about Greenmission. The earlier version of this product, known as the Ctrl-Bar, attached to a Tesla’s center display and transmitted inputs to a smartphone app, which then relayed them to the vehicle.

There have been varied reports about the effectiveness of that product, but at least Greenmission was on the right track; the Ctrl-Bar appeared more factory-made compared to the unfortunately named and less appealing S3XY Buttons.

This new version, officially called the Ctrl-Platform, looks promising on paper. The bar itself, now referred to as the Ctrl-Bar 2, connects directly to the vehicle using Bluetooth Low Energy. Many functionalities, such as locking and climate system adjustments, can be managed through this connection. For features that require additional support—like mirror folding and activating performance modes—there's an optional Ctrl-Bridge add-on that connects to the OBD port and reads CAN data.

Every button on the Ctrl-Bar can be customized through the app. You simply select a spot on the bar, change the function assigned to it, and the corresponding icon above the button updates accordingly. The bar is powered by USB, and on newer Tesla models, you can discreetly route a cable from the rear of the unit to the glovebox's USB-A port.

Similar to the original Ctrl-Bar, which was funded on Indiegogo, Greenmission is now seeking support through Kickstarter. Every crowdfunding initiative carries risks, and many of us have encountered setbacks in the past. However, this isn’t Greenmission’s first venture, and they are already about halfway to their $29,000 goal. The Ctrl-Bar 2 is priced at $207, with costs increasing for additional features like the Ctrl-Bridge for enhanced functionality or the Ctrl-Stripe for adding RGB lighting to your Tesla, if that interests you. Delivery is anticipated to start in April.
