Audi's Exclusive EV for China Deserves an RS Upgrade | Carscoops
The E5 Sportback is reimagined with RS-level intensity and widebody style in recent renderings that make Europe's EVs seem subdued.
Digital artist has created a widebody version of the E5 featuring flared arches and distinctive details. This concept highlights Audi’s bolder design approach tailored for the Chinese market.
Audi's latest designs have stirred some debate, with notable successes and a few clear missteps. For example, the new A6 Avant is attractive and well-proportioned, whereas the Q4 e-tron appears to have been designed by a committee after the coffee ran out.
Consequently, it may benefit Audi's European design team to closely observe the achievements of their Chinese counterparts with the all-electric E5 Sportback. This model illustrates how Ingolstadt might rejuvenate its global EV aesthetics by fusing familiar Audi precision with a more aggressive character.
All iterations of the E5 Sportback maintain the same fundamental silhouette, yet with the right enhancements, there is ample opportunity for visual impact.
Renderings from Sugar Design present the vehicle in a widebody version inspired by the RS6 Avant, which looks fantastic. Who says EVs have to be dull and unexciting?
Right away, the E5 appears significantly more intimidating with the blacked-out front fascia, which is typically painted to match the body color in the standard model. The addition of black allows the intricate LED lighting around the fascia to stand out more prominently.
Moreover, lowering the vehicle and incorporating a sharp splitter enhances its aggressive look. The RS badge adds a nice finishing touch as well.
Similar to a true RS model, the E5 Sportback has been envisioned with flared wheel arches at both the front and rear. It is also outfitted with oversized wheels and, like the standard version, features a contrasting gloss-black roof.
To complete the design updates, a new blacked-out rear fascia mirrors the front's transformative effect on the car's overall appearance.
For now, we shouldn't get our hopes up that Audi will adopt some of the E5’s key design features for global markets. Nonetheless, given the model's rapid popularity there, integrating a few of its visual elements might be a smart move for the global lineup.
