Land Rover is revamping its Range Rover lineup, and our spies have just captured the first images of a new center-exit exhaust on the 2027 Range Rover Sport SV prototype. A new exhaust outlet might indicate a fresh tuning for the already powerful 626-horsepower, 4.4-liter V8 engine. It already accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in around 3.5 seconds; how much more power is necessary? "More," says the inner voice.

In the past, the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport were more distinct in terms of mechanical design. However, with the latest redesign, Land Rover has blurred those boundaries somewhat. While they haven't merged the two into one model range, the Range Rover Sport and the standard two-row Range Rover are now distinguished more by features than by physical characteristics. Both models also have an SV variant, like the one shown here. This center exhaust design is reminiscent of one of the Sport SV’s main competitors, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, which offers similar options.

This may not be what one would expect on a practical model, yet performance SUVs have embraced the center-exit style for many years, even if it complicates trailer towing. Jeep, known for some of the best rugged sporty SUVs, broke with tradition in the early 2000s with the Grand Cherokee SRT8. Later iterations of the high-performance Grand Cherokee offered better trailer configurations, but let’s face it: that was never the main focus.

The Land Rover prototype remains heavily camouflaged, making it challenging to identify any clear changes linked to the mid-cycle update. As observed in the image below (from a 2024 model), many of the front-end features look identical or very similar.

It’s likely we won't see the new Range Rover models in the U.S. until late 2026 at the earliest, but we should learn some details when the European market has its first preview later this year or early next year, according to our sources. Stay tuned.
