Alfa Romeo Provides The Tonale With An Essential Redesign | Carscoops
The refreshed crossover will be launched later this year, showcasing a bolder design and an improved interior.
Alfa Romeo has made updates to the Tonale's styling and trim.
It now features a redesigned grille, modified wheels, and a reconfigured interior layout.
The U.S. version of the crossover seems to eliminate the plug-in hybrid option.
Sales for the Alfa Romeo Tonale have plummeted by 23% in the United States, prompting the company to introduce a facelifted model to turn the tide.
The revised model appears much more striking, featuring a new front design with a concave scudetto grille inspired by the 33 Stradale, complete with horizontal lines and a blacked-out frame.
In addition, it sports a more aggressive bumper and a shortened front overhang. Alfa Romeo has also widened the front and rear tracks, introduced new wheel designs, and updated the badging. Buyers can choose from three new colors: Rosso Brera, Verde Monza, and Giallo Ocra, along with an optional contrasting black roof.
Minor Interior Modifications
The interior design mostly remains the same, but Alfa Romeo highlighted the introduction of “upgraded materials, colors, and finishes.” Changes include new contrast stitching on the dashboard, door panels, and armrests. For the first time, customers will also have the option of a red leather interior.
Alfa Romeo’s European public relations team mentioned updates to the center console and a new rotary shifter, which are expected to be included in the U.S. version as well.
Plug-In Hybrid Option No Longer Available in the U.S.
In the U.S. market, the Tonale will feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. This engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system.
Interestingly, Alfa Romeo has seemingly removed the plug-in hybrid variant from the U.S. lineup, which previously offered a total output of 285 hp (213 kW / 289 PS) and an electric-only range of 33 miles (53 km).
Revised Trim Levels
Apart from simplifying the powertrain choices, Alfa Romeo has also reduced the number of trim levels to three. The base Tonale Sprint comes with LED lighting, gloss black accents, and 18-inch wheels, along with aluminum pedals and fabric seats featuring contrast stitching and the Biscione logo on the seat backs.
The mid-tier Veloce offers a more premium experience with a dual-mode suspension, larger 19-inch wheels accompanied by red Brembo brake calipers, a hands-free power liftgate, and ventilated leather seats.
Finally, there’s a new Sport Speciale edition, which boasts a distinctive exterior with silver accents and three-hole 20-inch wheels concealing gloss black Brembo brake calipers. Inside, it features exclusive black-and-pearl perforated Alcantara seats and a black Alcantara-wrapped dashboard.
The 2026 Alfa Romeo Tonale is set to arrive at U.S. dealerships later this year, with more details to be disclosed closer to its release.
Updated Powertrains for Europe
The European model closely resembles its U.S. counterpart but offers a wider range of powertrain options that have been upgraded to meet the Euro 6E-bis standard.
Available choices include a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid with 173 hp (129 kW / 175 PS), combined with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and front-wheel drive. Additionally, a 128 hp (96 kW / 130 PS) 1.6-liter diesel option is available, equipped with a six-speed DCT and front-wheel drive.
The plug-in hybrid continues to be available in Europe, offering outputs of 187 hp (140 kW / 190 PS) and 266 hp (199 kW / 270 PS).
