Xiaomi's YU7 GT May Conceal More Than 1,000 HP Of Power | Carscoops
The upcoming electric crossover may adopt a similar tri-motor configuration as the remarkable 1,526 hp Xiaomi SU7 Ultra.
Camouflaged YU7 features newly designed fender flares, carbon brakes, and wider wheels.
It has the potential to become the fastest SUV ever to complete a lap at the Nürburgring circuit.
Trofeo RS tires suggest just how swift this high-performance SUV could be.
Although Xiaomi is a relatively new entrant in the automotive industry, it has quickly established itself as one of the most innovative and sought-after car brands in China. The SU7 sedan and YU7 crossover have been flying off the shelves, and Xiaomi has surpassed brands like Porsche and Rimac with the SU7 Ultra. Soon, the YU7 will also offer a high-performance variant.
Expected to bear the YU7 GT designation, this new model was recently captured by our spy photographers while testing at the Nürburgring. Instead of heavy body cladding, Xiaomi chose a simple skin-tight white and red camouflage wrap.
At first glance, the modifications appear minor. The front end looks similar to the standard YU7, but a closer look shows flared front and rear fenders, allowing for a wider track and larger wheel sizes. The test vehicle is equipped with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires, which are tailored for hypercars and supercars. It’s evident that the YU7 GT is set to be both fast and powerful.
Concealed behind the wheels are large carbon ceramic brakes with vibrant yellow calipers, indicating a braking system capable of matching the anticipated performance boost.
Powertrain-wise, the current Xiaomi SU7 Ultra employs three electric motors that produce a combined output of 1,526 hp and 1,306 lb-ft (1,770 Nm) of torque, significantly surpassing the 1,019 hp of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT. While it’s unclear if the YU7 GT crossover will match the astounding power of the SU7 Ultra sedan, it will almost certainly feature a similar tri-motor system and deliver over 1,000 hp.
If that holds true, we can expect the YU7 GT to dethrone the Audi RS Q8 Performance as the fastest SUV to ever lap the Nürburgring, needing to complete the task in under 7:36.698. Regardless, Xiaomi appears determined to establish its place among the top performance SUVs.
