A meticulously maintained 1966 muscle car is set to go to auction, appearing more vibrant than many contemporary models.
Original 327 V8 engine, delivering 275 hp and coupled with a four-speed manual transmission, powers this Impala SS.
Its black exterior is enhanced by polished chrome details.
Inside, the seats, door panels, and dashboard look as if they were just installed.
Once in a while, a classic American vehicle emerges as if it has been preserved in a time capsule. This 1966 Chevrolet Impala SS is one such rarity, scheduled for auction with Mecum in January. Its condition is immaculate, making it an ideal alternative to today's muscle cars, many of which are laden with digital technology.
The auction house has not disclosed the mileage of this Impala SS, but regardless of that figure, it's evident that it has been extremely well maintained and appears just as it did when it left Chevrolet's factory almost 60 years ago.
The exterior boasts a rich black finish that seems like it has just undergone detailing, completely free of any significant blemishes. The chrome on both the front and rear bumpers also shines like new, as do the original wheels on which the car rests. The lengthy body design, along with the absence of B-pillars, enhances the vehicle's remarkable aesthetics.
The interior tells a similar story. The seats and dashboard, upholstered in black, look nearly flawless. Likewise, the dashboard, steering wheel, and transmission tunnel exhibit minimal signs of wear, suggesting that the car may have been restored at some point. Even if this Impala had been stored away in a garage for the last 59 years, we would have anticipated seeing some signs of aging in the interior.
Under the hood lies a 327 cubic-inch V8 engine that delivered 275 hp when this muscle car was originally released, paired with a four-speed manual gearbox that powers the rear wheels. Mecum has not provided a pre-auction value for the vehicle, making it intriguing to see how much it will fetch once bidding commences at the Kissimmee 2026 event in January.
