Mercedes has provided the first official glimpse of the interior of the upcoming electric GLC SUV.
The 39.1-inch display is the largest single dashboard screen Mercedes has produced to date. The GLC with EQ Technology will make its debut at this month’s Munich IAA show in Germany.
Having already teased the new electric GLC’s striking exterior element, its retro-futuristic illuminated grille, Mercedes is now showcasing an impressive interior feature—the next-generation MBUX Hyperscreen display that spans the entire width of the vehicle.
Initially, the new baguette-shaped dashboard resembles that of the electric CLA sedan unveiled in March. However, the CLA’s setup consists of three displays (including an optional passenger display) cleverly hidden beneath a single glass panel, giving the illusion of one screen, similar to the original Hyperscreen introduced with the 2021 EQS.
A Genuine Single Display
In contrast, the GLC’s display is a genuine single unit, and at 39.1 inches, it is the largest ever installed in a production vehicle by Mercedes.
Mercedes asserts that the display's high resolution and 1,000 LEDs used in its backlighting technology offer “exceptional clarity and vibrant color.” They emphasize that drivers need not be concerned about the dashboard creating distractions while driving, as the intelligent zone dimming feature allows certain areas of the display to be less prominent while important information remains visible—a more advanced approach compared to what Saab once utilized.
The upper section of the console contains two wireless smartphone charging pads, which are located away from the screen by a pair of central air vents. Directly beneath the chargers is a narrow strip of physical buttons, along with a volume dial that has a corresponding dial on the right side of the steering wheel.
Lighting with Intent
While ambient lighting is not a new concept, the GLC’s lighting system does not just change based on the selected "mood"; it also alters to alert the driver of system updates. For instance, adjusting the digital climate control temperature causes the main ambient lighting and vent illumination to briefly change color to indicate the adjustment.
The GLC with EQ Technology will have its full introduction at the Munich auto show (IAA Mobility 2025) on September 7. The first variant to be released is the GLC 400 4Matic with EQ Technology, which can extend electric range by approximately 162 miles (260 km) in just 10 minutes due to its charging capability of over 320 kW.
