Fake sound generators are no longer a novelty, yet Jaguar appears determined to incorporate one in the model that will mark its electric era.

Jaguar's forthcoming electric GT will be equipped with a simulated V8 soundtrack played through speakers.

The purpose of the sound generator is to evoke the emotional appeal of the company's previous V8 models.

It will be built on a completely new electric platform offering approximately 430 miles of range.

A few years back, Jaguar made the controversial choice to fully embrace an all-electric future, discontinuing all combustion-engine models in its lineup to better compete with ultra-luxury brands like Bentley. Recently, a newly leaked spy video of the brand's upcoming electric four-door GT reveals that while the company is progressing, it still aims to maintain a connection to its internal combustion heritage.

This is not the first time the production model of Jaguar’s Type 00 Concept has been spotted during testing, but it is the first instance in which we've heard it making sounds on video. At around the 12-second mark, the camouflaged prototype is seen passing the camera and climbing a small incline, producing a sound that is unmistakable. Rather than the quiet hum of a typical EV, it emits a deep rumble more closely associated with a Jaguar V8.

Prior to its shift towards electric power, Jaguar was renowned for its V8 engines, including the supercharged 5.0-liter variants found in the F-Type and the high-performance F-Pace. They all have a fantastic sound, and it appears the brand has added an artificial sound generator to its electric GT to provide the emotional experience that is often lacking in many electric vehicles today.

In all likelihood, Jaguar may be crafting various internal combustion engine soundtracks for the Type 00, and owners will also have the option to drive their cars in complete silence. Hyundai initiated the trend of EVs featuring ICE soundtracks with the Ioniq 5 N, with several other models following suit, such as the Abarth 500e and Dodge Charger Daytona. Even Ferrari's first electric vehicle is expected to incorporate a similar system.

Aside from its sound, the new Jaguar will bear a strong resemblance to the sleek two-door concept unveiled late last year, featuring the same striking front fascia, elongated hood, sturdy stance, and sportback silhouette. It remains unclear if it will have a fixed rear window like the concept, but the Polestar 4 has already demonstrated that a rear window is not essential in an age of compact, rear-facing cameras.

Built on Jaguar’s new electric platform, the GT is anticipated to offer around 430 miles (or 692 kilometers) of driving range. A full unveiling is expected by year-end, providing a clearer understanding of how the brand plans to blend its heritage with its electric goals.
