The Concept C roadster reveals the brand's new design language and foreshadows an upcoming production model.
Audi has launched the Concept C, which hints at a future production vehicle.
This model will be manufactured at the Böllinger Höfe facility and is anticipated to debut in 2027.
In addition to showcasing a production car, the concept illustrates Audi's new design philosophy.
Audi has formally presented the Concept C just before its debut at the Munich Motor Show. This eye-catching hardtop roadster is a preview of the brand's new design approach and a production model that is expected to be inspired by the revamped Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman.
Exuding a bold and minimalist aesthetic, the concept embodies the essence of the iconic Auto Union Type C racer and introduces the new “Audi brand face,” characterized by a distinctly rectangular grille oriented in portrait style, marking a significant shift in design.
The grille is complemented by angular features that direct airflow into vertical slits, along with slender four-element headlights that are set to become a signature component of Audi’s visual identity, both during the day and at night.
The striking design continues toward the rear, where the concept boasts a sleek windscreen and aerodynamic bodywork, characterized by taut surfaces, sharp lines, and a pronounced shoulder that extends the length of the vehicle.
While the aerodynamic wheels and sporty side skirts are designed to attract attention, the retractable hardtop takes center stage. This is the first hardtop of its kind for an Audi roadster, combining the open-air advantages of a convertible with the aesthetics and security of a coupe.
The roof consists of two sections, and a hatch at the rear opens to provide storage space. The roof then retracts, followed by the hatch closing. This mechanism operates similarly to that of the Porsche 911 Targa, which is not surprising given the shared design ethos.
At the rear, the design is relatively simple, featuring a wide diffuser and four-element taillights, while a camera replaces the traditional rear window.
A Minimalist Interior Without Distractions
The industrial design extends into the cabin, creating an environment reminiscent of an airport terminal. Drivers are positioned behind a reimagined steering wheel, facing a digital instrument cluster.
While this is fairly standard, Audi has adopted a ‘shy tech’ philosophy to reduce distractions. To that end, the vehicle is equipped with a 10.4-inch infotainment system that can be tucked away when not in use.
Additional interior features include digital climate controls, anodized aluminum trims, and soft ambient lighting. The automaker has opted for stylish cloth upholstery instead of leather.
Upcoming Production Model
Although the vehicle is primarily a prototype, Audi has confirmed it serves as a “concrete preview of a production vehicle.” It will be produced at their Böllinger Höfe plant, with an expected launch in 2027.
Beyond presenting a future production model, the concept's exterior and interior design elements are set to influence other road-worthy vehicles. While these adjustments may take time, Audi has announced plans to introduce an entry-level electric vehicle next year, which will be manufactured in Ingolstadt. The company also plans to unveil new performance models in 2026, likely including the S6 and RS6 Avant.
