The Range Rover Velar embraces the concept of a Land Rover that stays clean, featuring a relatively low ride height and elegant lines (though it remains capable off-road). An all-electric version is in development, and our spy photographer in Germany recently spotted its prototype testing at the Nürburgring.
While the current Velar resembles a compressed and slightly sloped standard Range Rover, this prototype appears to have a more pronounced front-heavy design. The hood seems shorter, and the section behind the second-row windows shows some angular shapes.
At the rear, notable spoilers are visible above the back window, divided in the center, and there's also a smaller spoiler beneath the window, reminiscent of the Cayenne Coupe. The heavily defined sections along the roof and significant protrusions where the cargo area windows would typically be also grabbed my attention.
Initially, I thought these might just be disguise elements intended to obscure the car’s actual shape. However, this is the same brand that attached lunch boxes to the side of the Defender and brought it to market.
The Defender's original equipment manufacturer (OEM) exterior cargo boxes may look odd, but they serve a purpose. Land Rover
It’s possible that the Velar will include some pronounced, integrated roof rack rails and a unique design feature at the rear, similar to the Defender’s optional storage box. Alternatively, there might be some intriguing aerodynamic improvements in the back to enhance electric driving range.
We also got a glimpse of the hatch opening—a large clamshell that should offer ample access to the trunk.
There were rumors suggesting that the Range Rover Velar EV would launch as a 2026 model, but with only a few months left in 2025, we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, check out additional angles of the captured Velar prototype and share your thoughts on what you're observing.
