Ferrari Never Created a 288 GTO Revival, But Another Company Succeeded | Carscoops

This unique 288 GTO tribute was crafted by the same company that brought back the Lancia Stratos.

This initiative was developed by Manifattura Automobili Torino in collaboration with ZeroACento.

Based on the F8, this build features carbon fiber bodywork and a custom-designed interior.

The 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine from Ferrari has been enhanced to generate over 800 horsepower.

Few reinterpretations of classic supercars achieve the balance of heritage and innovation like this one: introducing the 273 Potenza, a striking custom creation inspired by Ferrari’s legendary 288 GTO.

While it may seem like it came directly from Maranello’s special projects team, it is actually a tailored build based on the Ferrari F8 Tributo, created by the independent coachbuilder Manifattura Automobili Torino (MAT).

You might remember them as the team responsible for the impressive Lancia Stratos revival, a project that similarly fused historical influence with contemporary engineering. Although MAT's version of Ferrari was unveiled a couple of years ago, this one-off model hasn't received the acknowledgment it deserves.

Additionally, Touring's Arese RH95 Vento D’Oro is another coachbuilt Ferrari adorned in gold.

To us, the F8 Tributo already looks fantastic and could even be deemed more aesthetically pleasing than the 296 GTB that succeeded it. Remarkably, Manifattura Automobili Torino, in partnership with ZeroACento Automobili, has somehow enhanced the F8's design further.

It all begins with the body, which now features completely new lightweight carbon fiber panels with an alluring red tint. This is an appearance typically reserved for hypercar manufacturers like Pagani and Koenigsegg.

      Retro Inspiration, Modern Execution

Up front, the 273 Potenza has been completely redesigned. It showcases four square-shaped LED daytime running lights on its striking new bumper and boasts a unique hood equipped with large air extraction vents. The car's retro aesthetic is further enhanced by exquisite five-spoke star-shaped wheels with red centerlocks.

Amazingly, the rear may even surpass the front in terms of appeal. While the recognizable F8 Tributo taillights remain, there is a custom engine cover, quarter panels, diffuser, and bumper, all crafted from dark red carbon fiber. It also features a lightweight titanium exhaust.

      Interior Modifications and Engine Enhancements

The Ferrari's interior has undergone significant alterations as well. The most noticeable upgrade is the completely reimagined transmission tunnel, which now includes a new gear selector. Additionally, the dashboard has been customized to evoke a more GTO-like appearance, complete with a distinctive set of controls for the HVAC system.

Performance enhancements haven't been neglected either. The vehicle's 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine has been modified to deliver over 800 horsepower. This power complements the dramatic styling of the design, and while one might ponder how Ferrari would have approached an official 288 GTO tribute, it's difficult to imagine a resulting creation that could surpass this.
