Tesla is recalling five Model Ys in the United States due to a defective horn ground wire.
The vehicles in question were produced between March 27 and July 10, 2025, in the US.
So far, the company has received two warranty claims related to this issue.
Though Tesla has not faced nearly as many problems as Ford this year, it has nonetheless issued a notable number of recall notices in the US in recent months. The latest addition concerns the company’s top-selling vehicle, the Model Y.
This recall isn’t associated with significant safety risks but instead relates to a more routine issue—the horn. Tesla has indicated that the ground wire supplying power to the horn may not be properly secured. If that’s the case, the horn may fail to operate. Unlike some other problems that can be resolved through software updates, this situation necessitates a physical repair at a service center.
Good news for Tesla is that only five Model Ys in the United States are affected by this defect. All were manufactured between March 27, 2025, and July 10, 2025. According to Tesla, their supplier Yanfeng International may have not secured the ring terminal of the horn ground wire correctly, causing a loss of continuity in the horn circuit.
To date, the company has recorded two warranty claims but has yet to receive any reports of crashes, injuries, or fatalities related to the problem.
The issue was identified on July 9, when Tesla personnel noticed a steering wheel with a horn that only functioned sporadically. This prompted an investigation that ultimately led to the recall.
Tesla intends to inform affected owners around September 23. Once they are notified, owners will be instructed to visit a service center where technicians will examine the horn’s ground wire. If it is determined to be inadequately secured, it will be repaired according to standard specifications at no cost, as is typical.
