Shortly after unveiling the 2026 model year changes for North America's LC, Lexus has discreetly introduced several updates for the version intended for the Japanese market. Among the most significant changes is the introduction of the new LC500 Pinnacle edition, which may represent the final special version of the current flagship coupe and convertible.
Initially revealed as a concept in 2012 and subsequently launched as a production model in 2016, the LC has had a lengthy lifecycle. Now, almost ten years later, Lexus is rolling out the Japan-exclusive Pinnacle edition, which the brand describes as the "summit." This terminology implies that the Pinnacle could signal a farewell to the model, although Lexus has yet to announce any end of production dates or confirm rumors about a successor.
Distinctive Features
The Pinnacle edition resembles the US-spec Inspiration Series, featuring front bumper canards, black trim, and a fixed rear wing made of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic. However, the distinction lies in the fact that the wing—first introduced in the Aviation special edition in 2020—is now available on both the coupe and convertible versions.
The coupe is adorned with a unique Oborogin paint finish that has a matte clear coat, while the convertible is offered in Neutrino Gray with a Brown Silver soft top. Both variants come equipped with 21-inch forged alloy wheels featuring a multi-spoke design and a black sputtering finish, presenting a subtle yet notable aesthetic.
Inside, the coupe features a two-tone black and white interior, while the convertible opts for a more luxurious saddle tan and white combination. Each variant is embellished with special touches such as embroidered dashboards, an “LC Limited Edition” plaque on the center console, and carbon fiber scuff plates.
Performance and Handling Enhancements
The powertrain consists of the same naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine, generating 471 hp (351 kW / 477 PS) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque. It is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission that directs power to the rear wheels. A specifically tuned limited-slip differential is also included to enhance the overall driving experience.
Concerning chassis upgrades, the coupe benefits from a rear aluminum hollow suspension member, which Lexus claims enhances rigidity and grip. The suspension tuning varies between the two body styles, with the coupe designed for more responsive handling and the convertible oriented towards a smoother, more relaxed ride.
The LC500 Pinnacle Edition has a price tag of ¥17,800,000 (approximately $121,500). Production will be limited to 100 units for each body style, exclusively available in Japan. Half of the units will be allocated through a lottery system, with applications open from July 24 to August 7. Successful applicants will be contacted by August 18.
What About the Standard LC?
Regarding the remainder of the LC lineup, Japanese customers still have the option to select the LC500h, equipped with the hybrid 3.5-liter V6, and the LC500 featuring the 5.0-liter V8. However, the hybrid variant is no longer available in the US starting from the 2026 model year.
While there are no changes to the exterior or interior design, all Japanese-spec trims of the LC will now come with a new door sticker, which is said to enhance the perception of rigidity.
The updated LC lineup is set to debut in Japan on August 4, with pricing for the LC500 ranging between ¥14,100,000-14,930,000 ($96,200-101,900) and for the LC500h between ¥14,550,000-15,380,000 ($99,300-105,000).
