Headrest Issue Causes Jeep to Recall More Than 120,000 SUVs | Carscoops
Jeep recalls Grand Cherokees due to faulty head restraints while Chrysler addresses a rearview camera issue in Pacifica models.
Over 121,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs are being recalled because of problems with second-row headrests.
The head restraints may not meet federal height safety standards during a crash.
In a separate matter, 21 Chrysler Pacifica minivans are experiencing a malfunction with their rearview cameras.
The current Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee L are well-made, but they are not without flaws. It has been discovered that they may include second-row head restraints that cannot be securely locked in an upright position, which could increase the risk of injury in the event of a collision.
As a result, the automaker has announced a recall to fix this issue. On the same day, FCA US also rolled out a separate recall for the Chrysler Pacifica.
This recall specifically pertains to 43,241 Jeep Grand Cherokee L units manufactured between May 16, 2023, and January 30, 2024, as well as 78,157 Grand Cherokee models produced from May 16, 2023, to May 2, 2024. Stellantis reports that the issue lies in an internal mechanism of the second-row head restraints, which may have an "interference condition" that prevents them from being kept upright as intended.
Jeep has not clarified what this "interference condition" entails, but has indicated that the height of the head restraint's top may fall below 750 mm (29 inches), thus failing to meet the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
Owners can expect to receive notifications from Jeep regarding the recall between September 5 and 9. Dealers will be instructed to replace the head restraints if needed. Mopar has also initiated its own recall concerning this issue, which affects 764 head restraints supplied to customers.
In a separate recall related to the Pacifica, a small number of 2024–2025 Chrysler Pacifica minivans are impacted due to a rearview camera glitch. Only 21 vehicles manufactured between August 26 and September 9, 2024, are involved, linked to a non-compliance issue that has been recurring across the industry.
The automaker states that the rearview camera image may not be visible when the vehicle is put in Reverse. However, Chrysler has not provided an explanation for the problem. Additionally, the brand confirmed that the affected Pacificas have already undergone repairs. Between September 19, 2024, and April 22, 2025, these models had their infotainment systems replaced.
