Only 19 units of the extraordinary F40 LM were manufactured.

This particular F40 LM features an enhanced twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 760 hp.

Ferrari reduced the weight of the standard road version of the F40 by more than 700 lbs.

It has been serviced with new fuel bladders in preparation for the auction.

While many Ferraris are celebrated, a few ascend to legendary status. Some people view the F40 as the ultimate representation of Ferrari, but there exists an even rarer and more sought-after variant.

Designed for competitive racing on both sides of the Atlantic, the F40 LM stands out as one of the most exclusive and highly desired models bearing the iconic Ferrari name. One of these highly prized vehicles is set to be auctioned during Monterey Car Week next month.

Michelotto produced just 19 F40 LMs, specifically engineered for American IMSA racing and the European FIA-GT series. This specific car is the 14th of those 19 and is a unique model built to GTC specifications, making it the most powerful version of the F40. If RM Sotheby’s estimation is correct, the vehicle might fetch between $8.5 million and $9.5 million.

A Racing Heritage with an International Background

This F40 LM, chassis number 95448, was initially delivered to a buyer in St. Moritz, Switzerland, who owned multiple Ferraris at the time. Walter Hagmann retained the car until 2002 before reacquiring it and reselling it in 2007. In the following years, the new owner participated in several racing events across Italy, France, Spain, and the Czech Republic.

According to RM Sotheby’s, in 2014, the F40 LM returned to Michelotto for an engine and gearbox overhaul, and the car was repainted in its original Rosso Corsa color. Since then, it has been owned by collectors in Las Vegas, Germany, and Austria.

To prepare it for the upcoming August auction, it was serviced, receiving new fuel bladders, timing belts, accessory belts, spark plugs, and fuel filters. It was also equipped with new Michelin Pilot Sport GT Slick S7M tires.

More Power, Reduced Weight, Same Iconic Formula

Similar to the standard F40, the LM utilizes a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. However, enhancements allow it to deliver an impressive 760 hp, which is 289 hp more than the standard version. The LM is also approximately 700 lbs (317 kg) lighter than a regular F40, weighing in at only 2,315 lbs (1,050 kg) with fluids.

If you appreciate Ferraris that are loud, rare, and have the capability to outpace any financial apprehensions, you might want to take a closer look. You can view the listing here—but don’t hold us responsible if you find yourself reconsidering your retirement savings.
