Lexus' New V8 Supercar Unveils Interior Ready for Production While Revving Its Engine | Carscoops

The upcoming halo model is expected to feature a hybrid V8 engine generating nearly 800 hp, easily surpassing the legendary LFA.

The supercar is rumored to include a twin-turbo V8 with hybrid support.

Lexus’s new flagship is set to compete with the Aston Martin Vantage and Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S.

The racing variant of the vehicle will debut at the Daytona 24 Hours in January of next year.

Update: The official livestream from Goodwood has provided our first look inside the road-ready Toyota/Lexus GT prototype, which is anticipated to develop into a full production supercar. The interior design emphasizes performance-oriented materials and layout while maintaining a refined aesthetic. The carbon fiber seats mimic racing buckets but are more comfortably padded than those used exclusively on the track.

The cabin features a blend of red leather and Alcantara with aluminum accents, offering a sleek, modern ambiance. A large infotainment screen dominates the center console, positioned just above a series of physical buttons and switches that indicate a driver-focused design.

The camouflaged prototype, which ascended the hill alongside its GT3-spec racing counterpart, was revealed as the “Toyota GT prototype.” However, it may ultimately carry the Lexus LFR designation at production. According to drivers from Toyota Gazoo Racing, the project has been in the works for over four years and is close to its debut. The original story continues below.

While many automakers typically keep their prototypes under wraps until a full reveal, Toyota and Lexus have taken a different approach this time. At this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, the brands showcased two impressive prototypes, offering the public an early glimpse of what looks to be their next flagship supercar.

Toyota and Lexus have been working on this new model for quite some time, and although the final branding is yet to be confirmed, indications increasingly suggest it will bear the Lexus name.

Regardless of its eventual name, the vehicle was initially previewed by the GR GT3 Concept in 2022 and will lead to both a road version and a racing version, aimed at replacing the Lexus RC F GT3. Prototypes of both variants are on display at Goodwood, and while there is no confirmation on the powertrain, a powerful V8 is very likely.

As the event commenced on Thursday, both cars made their way up the renowned hillclimb. Though both were heavily camouflaged, they appear to be very appealing. The road version will compete directly with models like the Aston Martin Vantage and Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S, promising significantly more performance than the stunning LC500, which offers a maximum of 471 hp.

All indications suggest that the V8 will be complemented by both turbochargers and an electric motor. While specific horsepower figures remain undisclosed, it could potentially exceed 800 hp, enabling it to outpace the V10-powered LFA, which produced “only” 553 hp. However, that was 13 years ago, and performance expectations have notably evolved since then.

Both the road and racing cars feature a large front grille and an elongated hood that houses the engine. The road model also sports four exhaust pipes and a modest rear lip spoiler, whereas the GT3 racer is equipped with a more aggressive aerodynamic package, highlighted by a substantial rear wing.

A name for this new model has yet to be revealed, but it is currently referred to as the LFR. Whether this designation will carry through to production is still uncertain. There is even a possibility it could be branded as a Toyota or an independent Gazoo Racing model.

Current projections suggest that the car will be unveiled either late this year or in 2026. In an era where downsized hybrid performance vehicles are becoming more prevalent, this V8 powerhouse will be a welcome addition.
