Ineos, alongside off-road expert Letech, has developed the ultimate Grenadier model.

This off-road vehicle features portal axles, more robust tires, a roof rack, and numerous additional accessories.

The Grenadier Trialmaster X Letech has an initial price of about €170,000 ($199,000) before taxes.

For those who expect more than basic off-road capabilities, the newest version of the Ineos Grenadier boasts significant upgrades, reflected in its price. With enhanced ground clearance, portal axles, and a comprehensive range of rugged accessories, this revamped model is tailored for challenging terrains. The modifications are executed by German specialist Letech, creating a vehicle that can tackle conditions that many others cannot.

The concept originated from a reinforced Grenadier design showcased at last year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. After receiving positive feedback with over 1,000 expressions of interest, including many from rescue services, aid organizations, and commercial fleets operating in extreme settings, Ineos and Letech decided to move forward with a production version.

      When Doing Good Isn't Sufficient

The initial design was based on the Quartermaster pickup, but similar enhancements have now been applied to the Grenadier Station Wagon. Key features include a durable five-link suspension system with portal axles and offset wheel hubs.

Complemented by 37-inch BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires, the ground clearance has been raised by 186 mm (7.3 inches), reaching an impressive total of 450 mm (17.7 inches). This upgrade provides a wading depth of 1,050 mm (41.3 inches), making the vehicle nearly invincible in tough conditions.

According to the company, this new configuration results in a “wider footprint, optimized weight distribution, increased wheel travel, and enhanced axle articulation,” allowing the Grenadier to perform better in “deep sand, heavily flooded areas, or extremely rocky terrain.”

Externally, the Grenadier Trialmaster X Letech presents a “bigfoot” appearance reminiscent of the Mercedes-AMG G63 4×4 Squared. It is equipped with 18-inch forged beadlock alloy wheels and extended fenders to support the wider stance. Other features include a front-mounted winch, running boards, roof-mounted LED spotlights, and a roof rack designed to hold equipment such as the Maxtrax Sand Ladder Kit.

At the rear, the Station Wagon includes a new spare wheel carrier and a ladder that provides access to the roof. Meanwhile, the Quartermaster can be equipped with a lockable Loadspace Drawer Box and LED rear working lights. Inside, it features leather upholstery, heated front seats, a premium sound system, Safari windows, privacy glass, and carpet floor mats. Additionally, it can be equipped with an integrated Tyre Pressure Control System.

The drivetrain is retained from the standard Grenadier, offering buyers a choice between BMW-sourced turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engines that run on either gasoline or diesel. The enhanced Grenadier supports a towing capacity of 3,500 kg (7,716 lbs) and can carry a payload of up to 642 kg (1,415 lbs) for the Quartermaster pickup.

      A Look at Letech

Letech GmbH, located in Stuttgart, specializes in restoring and customizing classic off-road vehicles while developing specialized low-volume models and accessories. Its collaboration with Ineos began in 2021 when it became an official sales and service partner for the Grenadier.

Letech sources vehicles directly from Ineos’ Hambach plant in France. After that, they complete the full range of upgrades in-house before delivering the vehicles to customers.

      Availability and Pricing

Ineos is now taking orders for the Grenadier Trialmaster in Germany, and according to CEO Lynn Calder, the availability of the Letech-enhanced Grenadier will “quickly expand to other key markets.”

Regarding pricing, the Trialmaster X Letech Station Wagon starts at about €170,000 ($199,000) before VAT and local taxes. The Quartermaster pickup will cost roughly an additional €1,000 ($1,200). This makes it the most expensive Grenadier to date, surpassing last year’s limited-edition Detour, which featured a significantly upgraded interior.
