The upcoming RS6 Avant is anticipated to swap out the existing twin-turbo V8 for a hybridized V6.
This new hybrid V6 could deliver 725 hp, replacing the previous engine.
Additionally, an all-electric variant of the new RS6 may be available, potentially surpassing the performance of the internal combustion engine version.
Recent images reveal a modified rear design with oval tailpipes positioned closer to the center of the bumper.
While the BMW M5 Touring may have overshadowed the Audi RS6 Avant, Audi Sport is diligently developing the latest iteration of its high-performance estate. Initially set to be renamed the RS7 Avant, it will retain the RS6 name, and a nearly production-ready prototype was recently spotted testing in Spain’s Sierra Nevada mountains by a Carscoops reader.
As part of a revised naming convention introduced in 2023, ICE-powered Audis were to adopt odd numbers in their titles, while electric vehicles would utilize even numbers. Consequently, the familiar RS6 was set to transition to RS7. However, Audi has since retracted this new naming strategy. Thus, the vehicle shown will continue to be referred to as the RS6 Avant, and it’s likely that the electric variant will carry the name RS6 e-tron.

This prototype appears to be closer to production readiness than the one we observed earlier this year. The front design is intensely aggressive, characteristic of an RS6, featuring large air intakes and an expansive grille. Notably, there are vents on the front quarter panels, roof rails, and sizeable five-spoke wheels outfitted with substantial brakes.
The rear design is emerging as the vehicle’s most appealing angle. It will include the same LED taillights as the updated A6, complete with a full-width light bar. Audi has retained the familiar oval tailpipes from the previous generation, though they have been adjusted to a more central position on the bumper.
Reports indicate that the new model will replace the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 found in the current iteration with a plug-in hybrid V6, which will also be utilized in the new RS5. While it will have two fewer cylinders, it will incorporate an electric motor, potentially providing the new RS6 with approximately 725 hp, closely matching the 717 hp available from the M5’s plug-in hybrid V8.
Kudos to Carlos Garcia for sharing these images!
