Gasoline Mustang Surges Ahead To Outperform Mach-E As Ford's Electric Vehicle Sales Decline | Carscoops

The Ford E-Transit is experiencing significantly lower sales this year compared to the previous year.

Ford's electric vehicle sales fell by 31.4 percent in the second quarter.

Sales of the Mustang Mach-E dropped by 19.5 percent in Q2 compared to last year.

However, the sales of the group's hybrid vehicles increased by 27.4 percent year-to-date.

While many anticipate that President Trump’s tariffs and subsequent price hikes will negatively impact new car sales in the U.S. this year, Ford's recent data presents a different perspective. The company reported a robust first half, aligning with the general market trend of rising sales among most major automakers.

Ford's total U.S. deliveries increased by 6.6 percent year-over-year in the first half. However, this positive trend does not apply to Ford’s electric vehicle range, which has experienced a significant decline in demand for several key models.

      Declines in Electric Sales

In the first six months of the year, Ford sold 21,785 Mustang Mach-E units in the U.S., reflecting a 2 percent decrease from the 22,234 units sold in the same timeframe last year. More troubling is the model’s performance in the second quarter. From April to June, Ford delivered 10,178 Mach-Es, marking a 19.5 percent drop from the 12,645 sold in Q2 of the previous year.

The gasoline-powered Mustang has also faced decreased demand. Sales declined by 14.2 percent in the first half of the year, totaling 23,551 units. However, in the second quarter, it did manage to recover some ground, with 14,174 units sold—a 3.2 percent increase over the same period last year.

This rise enabled the gasoline-powered Mustang to outsell its electric version in Q2, despite still lagging in year-to-date totals.

Sharp Declines for Lightning and E-Transit

Interest in the E-Transit has plummeted. In the first half of the year, sales declined by 33.8 percent to 4,174 units, with an even steeper fall in Q2, where Ford sold just 418 E-Transits—a decrease of 87.7 percent compared to the previous year. Sales of the all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning also dropped, totaling 13,029 units this year, a reduction of 16.7 percent. In Q2, sales fell by 26.1 percent to 5,842 units, down from 7,902 last year.

Overall, Ford’s electric vehicle sales decreased by 31.4 percent in the second quarter and by 11.8 percent for the first half of the year. The positive aspect for the company is in hybrid sales, which are trending upward. Hybrid sales increased by 23.5 percent in Q2 to 66,448 units and rose by 27.4 percent year-to-date, totaling 117,521 units.

      Lincoln Experiences Steady Growth

Lincoln also recorded solid growth in the first half of the year, driven by strong demand for its SUV offerings. Total sales for the brand rose by 12.8 percent year-over-year to 55,063 units, with a particularly noteworthy performance in the second quarter, where sales surged by 31 percent to 31,332 units.

The Navigator saw an exceptional 114.9 percent increase in Q2 sales, while the Aviator, Nautilus, and Corsair also experienced significant double-digit growth. Although Lincoln’s overall sales volume is smaller compared to Ford’s, its consistent upward trend indicates growing interest in its premium products.

Robust Combustion and Hybrid Growth Offsets EV Declines

Despite the substantial drop in EV sales, Ford and the Lincoln brand continued to perform well, selling 1,113,386 vehicles in the U.S. during the first half, which is a solid 6.6 percent increase compared to last year. The second quarter was particularly strong, with 612,095 new Ford and Lincolns sold, representing a 14.2 percent increase over last year’s figure of 536,050.
