Skoda's Electric Wagon Set to Disrupt the SUV-Centric Market | Carscoops
Don't be concerned; the current ICE-powered Octavia will still be available.
Skoda is set to reveal a new wagon concept featuring a fully electric powertrain this September. This concept will give a preview of the Octavia Combi EV, anticipated to arrive later in the decade. The production model is expected to utilize the upcoming SSP architecture from the VW Group.
While wagons may not be the primary choice for families anymore, they are far from obsolete. Skoda continues to be one of the few manufacturers dedicated to the practical appeal of the estate format and will soon showcase what lies ahead. During the Munich Auto Show this September, the brand will introduce an electric concept version of the next-generation Octavia Combi.
This upcoming EV was originally hinted at in 2023 as a "spacious" electric estate, intended for families and business users. Its expected length is around 4.7 meters (185 inches). At that time, Skoda also shared renderings of a sculpture, suggesting the design will feature sharp lines, large wheels, and a sporty wagon profile.
Initially planned for release in 2026, the launch of the new Combi has been pushed closer to the decade's end. A report from Autocar indicates that the electric wagon will be built on Volkswagen Group’s SSP architecture, the same platform that will support the next-generation Volkswagen Golf.
Even with a shift towards electrification, the new model will not directly replace the current Octavia. Skoda intends to keep its internal combustion engine options available, offering gasoline, diesel, mild-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid choices for those who are not ready for fully electric vehicles yet.
Strong Sales Keep ICE Active
As reported by Auto News, the Octavia Combi remains Skoda’s top-selling model in Europe as of 2025, outpacing its hatchback version. From January to May, the wagon sold 81,353 units, despite a 21 percent decrease compared to the same timeframe last year.
The fourth generation of the Octavia was launched in 2019 and underwent a mid-lifecycle update in 2024. Skoda is set to introduce a plug-in hybrid variant to the refreshed lineup, offering more options to customers. Given its sustained popularity, it’s likely that the MQB-based Octavia will see a second facelift before the decade ends, keeping it in production beyond 2030.
Skoda Sells More EVs in Europe Than Tesla
May was a remarkable month for electric Skodas throughout Europe. The manufacturer delivered 14,290 electric vehicles, experiencing a 181 percent increase from the previous year. This achievement allowed Skoda to surpass Tesla, ranking second only to Volkswagen in EV sales for that month. Much of this growth can be attributed to the new Elroq SUV, which joins the Enyaq and Enyaq Coupe in the brand's electric lineup.
Looking ahead, Skoda has several more EVs planned. In 2026, the company aims to launch the Epiq, a compact electric SUV built on the same platform as the VW ID.2 and Cupra Raval. Priced to start at €25,000, the Epiq will serve as an electric option alongside the Fabia, Scala, and Kamiq models, which will continue to offer combustion engines for the foreseeable future.
The production version of the Vision 7S concept, a larger electric SUV positioned above the Elroq and Enyaq, is also expected in 2026. Once released, it will complement the ICE-powered Kodiaq in Skoda’s SUV lineup.
