A man faces allegations of submitting false claims within Australia’s subsidized medication program, with the charges carrying a maximum potential prison sentence of 35 years.

Among the seized vehicles are a BMW M3, a Lamborghini Aventador Ultimate, and a BMW 7-Series.

It’s often said that crime doesn’t pay, and an Australian man was recently reminded of this when law enforcement took several luxury cars from his extensive property in New South Wales. The high-end vehicles included a custom Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, a Ferrari 488 Pista, and a McLaren 765LT.

An investigation by the Australian Federal Police into the unnamed 58-year-old man began in February 2023 after receiving a tip regarding a pharmacist allegedly submitting false claims under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme from 2014 to 2023. This program in Australia subsidizes prescription medications for both citizens and visitors.

      $7 Million Fraud Investigation

Authorities targeted the man's property in Dural and a pharmacy in Cabramatta East. They believe his offenses amount to over AU$10 million (nearly US$7 million) and have charged him with two counts of dealing with proceeds of crime valued at AU$1 million (around $657,000) or more.

He also faces two counts of dishonesty resulting in a loss to the Commonwealth. If convicted, these charges could result in a combined maximum prison sentence of 35 years.

In total, 12 vehicles were confiscated, including seven BMWs, such as a matte black G80 M3 and a 7-Series. Other seized vehicles include a Ferrari 488 Pista, a Ferrari 488 GTB, a dark purple Lamborghini Aventador, and a black Lamborghini Aventador Ultimae. Additionally, a black McLaren 765LT with red accents and MSO features was taken.

Along with the vehicles, authorities also seized the man’s house, pharmacy, and several bank accounts. The total value of the confiscated assets surpasses AU$20 million (approximately $13.15 million).

If prosecutors are successful, the man’s assets will be liquidated, with the proceeds deposited into the Commonwealth Confiscated Assets Account, which can then be reinvested to support crime prevention and law enforcement initiatives.
