The new model is expected to be developed on an existing platform for cost-effectiveness.

BMW's M division has announced that it is considering a release of a limited small series model. The upcoming model may follow the philosophy of the 3.0 CSL, limited to just 50 units. There has been significant demand for the Skytop and Speedtop, indicating strong interest in exclusive BMWs.

BMW’s M division is known for producing remarkable cars, and it plans to introduce a specially unique model in the future. Although official details are limited, BMW has confirmed that a new limited-edition model is being developed, which will be part of the brand’s expanding collection of exclusive “small series” vehicles—similar to the modern 3.0 CSL and the recent concepts like the Skytop and Speedtop.

Sylvia Neubauer, Vice President of Customer, Brand, and Sales at BMW M, has confirmed that they have received the go-ahead for this special model. The exact form it will take is still uncertain, but enthusiasts of classic performance are likely hoping for a traditional internal combustion engine, especially with an all-electric M3 on the horizon. Whether this will be the case remains unknown.

A Designated Spot in the Lineup

“We are in discussions, but we need to determine the right timing for it,” Neubauer stated to the BMW Blog during the 24 Hours of Le Mans event. “Rest assured, we share the same dream and enthusiasm. We have been in talks with Adrian van Hooydonk [Head of BMW Group Design] and the team responsible for small series planning, and there is a designated spot for BMW M.”

      Built from Existing DNA

It is highly likely that this new model will derive from an existing BMW product, as creating a limited-run car from scratch would not be financially sensible. One possibility is a version akin to the M4-based 3.0 CSL that launched in late 2022, limited to just 50 units and reportedly priced at over €750,000 (~$884,000) each.

Neubauer stressed that the aim is not merely to produce a collector’s item, but also to provide something special for a broader group of M enthusiasts when feasible.

“I genuinely believe we need a brand-defining model that is very limited—a dream car, at a higher price point for a select few collectors,” she remarked. “From there, it likely won't be a large series of cars, but rather a small series to make more customers satisfied at a reasonable price point.”
