Forget the Pacifica and travel in elegance with the forthcoming Mercedes VLE and VLS.

Mercedes has teased the new VLE, which is likely to succeed the V-Class.

Built on the innovative VAN.EA platform, this model will be available in North America, accommodating up to eight passengers, and will be succeeded by a more luxurious VLS.

Earlier this year, Mercedes revealed its plans for two new vans, the VLE and VLS, stating that they will utilize a new van platform and feature prominently in their model lineup.

Today, Mercedes has unveiled the first official images of the VLE, anticipated to replace the V-Class and serve as a more upscale iteration of the next-gen Vito.

While details are sparse, the VLE showcases a fully enclosed grille flanked by large headlights, alongside a broad lower intake and a short hood.

The design includes a streamlined windscreen that transitions into a subtly sloping roof. The model is characterized by slab-sided bodywork, flush door handles, and a surprisingly compact greenhouse, with a beltline higher than that of the V-Class.

At the rear, though there is limited visibility, the van features a considerable spoiler and vertical taillights that are temporary placeholders for production versions. It also has a simple rear bumper and a large liftgate.

Mercedes has shared that two prototypes successfully covered 677 miles (1,090 km) from Stuttgart to Rome with just two 15-minute charging breaks. This journey was reportedly challenging, involving winding mountain roads, extensive highways, busy rural areas, and narrow city streets. The rear axle steering feature proved beneficial, enhancing maneuverability in urban settings.

Currently, not much is disclosed regarding the VLE, but the automaker has indicated that the new vans will be built on the VAN.EA platform, offering options for front- and all-wheel drive. They will include 800V technology, a 22 kW AC charger, and the latest version of the Mercedes-Benz Operating System.

Anticipated features also include a range of “well over” 311 miles (500 km) and a Level 2 semi-autonomous driving system, with a Level 3 system expected by the decade's end to further enhance long-distance travel comfort.

Despite limited information, Mercedes confirmed that the VLE will seat up to eight individuals, making it suitable for families and as a VIP shuttle. The VLS is described as setting a new standard in automotive luxury.

In addition to their marketing statements, Mercedes has confirmed plans to introduce electric midsize vans in Canada, China, and the United States, focusing on passenger models dubbed “Grand Limousines,” rather than commercial variants like the Vito.
