Although it doesn't rival the Mustang, the Nissan Z is gaining traction in the market.

Sales of Nissan's Z coupe surged by 108% in the second quarter and are up 160% for the year thus far.

The sports car is outperforming the Supra but still lags behind the Charger Daytona.

Overall, Nissan sales fell by 6.1%, though the Ariya and Murano saw significant increases.

Sales of sports cars can be quite unpredictable, with an initial spike in interest that tends to diminish as the model ages. Nevertheless, the Nissan Z seems to be defying this pattern, as second-quarter sales rose by 108% to 1,635 units.

This aligns with a broader trend, with year-to-date sales reaching 3,789 units—a 160.1% increase compared to last year. For context, Toyota has sold only 1,231 Supras throughout 2025, meaning the Z has sold over three times that amount.

However, both models fall short compared to the 14,174 Mustangs sold in the second quarter. Nonetheless, the Z is close to the Dodge Charger Daytona, which had only 2,352 sales in Q2, even with some dealers offering discounts exceeding $20,000.

Regarding prices, the 2025 Nissan Z begins at $42,970 and is equipped with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine producing 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS) and 350 lb-ft (474 Nm) of torque. It can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Customers also have the option of the $65,750 Z NISMO, featuring an upgraded powertrain that delivers 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS) and 384 lb-ft (520 Nm) of torque. This model includes a limited-slip differential, enhanced brakes, an updated steering system, and a retuned suspension, among other features.

On the subject of Nissan sports cars, GT-R sales plummeted by 93.2% in the second quarter, selling only five units. For the year, they are down 75.5%, which isn’t surprising given that North American production ceased last fall.

Outside of sports cars, Nissan experienced a disappointing second quarter with total sales down 6.1% to 209,114 units. The Altima saw a decline of 16%, and the Sentra dropped by 36.7%. The Frontier also struggled, with a 20.3% decline in sales.

On a positive note, the Ariya and Murano increased by 43.6% and 115.9%, respectively. The Pathfinder remains popular, with 26,880 units sold reflecting a 30.8% increase. The redesigned Kicks also performed well, with sales rising 29.9% to 25,029 units.
