To add to the situation, the driver in Michigan had a stolen weapon in the vehicle.

Recently, a Michigan driver was apprehended for traveling at 143 mph in a zone with a 45 mph speed limit.

The individual was reportedly intoxicated and possessed a stolen firearm in the car.

If you’re going to commit a violation, it’s best to do so with caution. One Ford Mustang driver learned this the hard way after drawing the attention of law enforcement for going 75 mph (121 km/h) in a 45 mph (72 km/h) zone.

As per the Shelby Township Police Department, an officer initiated a turnaround upon noticing the speeding Mustang. Nevertheless, the vehicle sped away and was ultimately recorded at 143 mph (230 km/h), almost 100 mph (161 km/h) above the legal limit.

According to a new law, drivers in Florida may now face imprisonment for speeding.

The officer either lost sight of the car or chose not to pursue it but relayed the details to other units nearby. Shortly thereafter, a resident reported to the police about a suspicious Mustang that had entered their driveway. The driver then exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

When the police reached the location, the homeowner informed them that the man had returned to the car and driven off. However, authorities soon located it parked in a nearby neighborhood.

Upon investigation, police discovered a man "curled up in the back seat" and instructed him to exit the car. Once he complied, an officer reportedly detected the smell of alcohol and placed him under arrest. A search of the Mustang revealed multiple open containers of alcohol, as well as a "short barrel rifle" with partially filed-off serial numbers. Despite this, law enforcement was able to ascertain that it was stolen from Detroit.

Anthony Averiette faces several charges, including operating while intoxicated, possession of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun, and receiving or concealing a stolen firearm. Interestingly, while the department did not mention charges for speeding or evading arrest, Averiette was issued a $50,000 cash/surety bond.

Shelby Township Police Chief Robert Shelide commended the arrest, stating, "Removing a stolen gun from the streets and apprehending a drunk driver is a victory for public safety." He emphasized the department's dedication to safeguarding the community and holding those who violate the law accountable, especially when they endanger others.
