Nineteen owners of the Polestar 3 are facing a new recall concerning their panoramic glass roofs.
In each instance, the roof may detach due to a modification made during production.
The manufacturer will replace the glass roof on all affected electric vehicles as part of the recall.
Before reaching their customers, a small group of Polestar 3s had to return to the workshop once again. Nineteen vehicles that had previously undergone modification during production are now being recalled due to an issue that arose during that process. The concern is significant.
The panoramic glass roof on these SUVs has the potential to detach while driving, which could be concerning for anyone traveling behind.

Polestar has indicated that the affected 3s required a repaint during production. During this process, technicians applied masking tape, and the company is concerned that it may not have been properly removed. If any tape remains, the glass and body may not bond correctly. It is indeed ironic that additional tape could cause poor adhesion.
What to Look For
With that said, Polestar offers guidance for owners who might be concerned they have one of the impacted vehicles. In addition to checking their VIN through the NHTSA or a local dealer, owners can look for warning signs. These include water entering the cabin, an unexpected increase in cabin noise, and malfunctions in various electrical systems.
Furthermore, Polestar notes that it is possible for the roof to “separate from the vehicle.” However, they emphasize that this is an improbable scenario, likely requiring high speeds, a rough road, and significant acceleration or deceleration. Overall, this appears to be a relatively minor issue that very few owners will experience.
Next Steps for Owners
Those affected can anticipate Polestar removing any masking tape around the panoramic roof and replacing the roof itself. Owners of Polestar 3 models manufactured after December 3, 2024, can rest assured, as the manufacturer has resolved the issue after that date. The automaker plans to send out notification letters to owners by no later than August 18.
