The future electric Porsche Cayenne is still in development, but Porsche recently showcased a prototype at a public hill climb event.

On Sunday, Porsche participated in the 2025 UK British Championship Hillclimb at Shelsley Walsh, entering the electric Cayenne in its prototype stage. It’s hard to overlook this vehicle, as its camouflage wrap prominently displays “Porsche Cayenne” in bright purple and blue lettering. Amusingly, the prototype also boasted a roof rack.

Porsche competed in the Road Cars Series Production Electric category, with Formula E test driver Gabriela Jilkova at the wheel.

The event commentators noted the EV's impressive start, taking just 1.94 seconds to reach 60 feet, thanks to its instant torque.

Viewers can catch this action around the 2:36:42 mark in the video stream.

“For a large vehicle climbing the hill, it’s something extraordinary,” the commentators remarked.

While it’s uncertain whether this prototype reflects the production model, it completed the course in 31.28 seconds, shattering the previous SUV record at Shelsley Walsh by more than four seconds.

The camo-wrapped Cayenne EV prototype resembles a Porsche Cayenne with a somewhat evolutionary design. The headlights feature the brand’s signature quad LED daytime running lights, and the rear end is equipped with horizontal LED taillights. The overall shape is familiar, but the window line in the C-pillar is distinct to the EV version compared to its gasoline counterpart. Large wheels, possibly 22 or 23 inches, fill the wheel wells.

Active aerodynamics can be seen functioning at the front, and potentially at the rear, throughout the rapid ascent.

At the start, it seems the Cayenne EV is emitting sounds, likely from a speaker, and during certain moments of the climb, noises can be heard from the electric SUV. These sounds appear to occur during intense acceleration, though they are quick and hard to definitively identify.

Initially, the next-generation Cayenne was planned to be fully electric, but Porsche has since decided to retain a gasoline-powered version beyond 2030.

With the electric Cayenne making an appearance at the hill climb in prototype form and only a light camouflage wrap, it appears to be only a matter of time before Porsche provides official details about the forthcoming EV.
