Social media algorithms inundate us with a variety of shocking car crash videos to the point where we’ve become desensitized. From Ford Mustangs crashing into crowds to Ferrari F40s igniting, we're pretty accustomed to this content. But then you stumble upon a video of a Dodge Challenger Scat Pack colliding with a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, prompting an astonished, “What?” This reaction is amplified when you discover it took place in Europe.
The YouTube clip from Carspotter Jeroen was shot at the renowned TT Circuit Assen in the Netherlands during the SuperCar Assen 2025 event last weekend. According to the event's website, the weekend included racing, a car show, a marketplace, a track day, and an extensive party all rolled into one gathering.
As is often the case in that area, heavy rain impacted the track during Sunday’s sessions, yet surprisingly (or perhaps unsurprisingly to seasoned track enthusiasts), there was no red flag issued. Two Porsche 911 GT3 RS models—one in silver and black, the other in white and green—are seen leaving the paddock while the track remains quite wet.
Later, these same cars are seen on the main straight accompanied by an orange Challenger (still sporting the yellow splitter guard). Although the straightaway remains wet, it’s less saturated than other parts of the track, at least based on the various angles presented in the video.
While the exact sequence of events is unclear, just a minute into the video, it's evident that weather conditions have deteriorated significantly, with heavy rain falling. Nevertheless, cars are still circulating, and for the most part, every driver seems to manage fine… until the 2:20 mark.
At this point, footage from two different perspectives, reportedly captured by Lena_Pink_RS7 and 026_Automotive from the grandstands along the main straight, comes into view. The previously seen silver Porsche approaches the first corner when the driver suddenly loses control (likely due to hydroplaning), causing the rear to swing left. While the complete sequence isn’t visible, another angle shared on Instagram shows that the Porsche driver managed to control the spin well enough to minimize damage. Although it grazes the wall, the car doesn’t seem extensively damaged by the time it comes to a stop.
Unfortunately, this didn't matter much, as just seconds later, a 4,300-pound American vehicle collided with the Porsche, pinning it against the wall. Significant damage is visible around the 3:00 mark after the session is red-flagged and an ambulance arrives at the crash site. The Porsche driver is observed walking around their vehicle, though the footage does not depict the Dodge driver.
Why didn’t race control halt the session before the chaos ensued? I can’t say, particularly at one of Europe’s premier tracks known for hosting MotoGP and other major series. Although some enthusiasts enjoy tracking their cars in varied conditions, it was clear that parts of the track were flooded, and no special tires can prevent accidents on such standing water—even for skilled drivers. Additionally, I suspect that these recreational drivers didn’t bring extreme wet tires for their brief outing.
Overall, this costly and regrettable collision could have been easily avoided, but what’s done is done. I hope everyone is okay.
