The EZ-6, which is the Chinese equivalent of Mazda's upcoming 6e, has introduced a Sport Edition featuring black accents and red brake calipers.

Mazda and Changan have launched a performance trim for the EZ-6 sedan exclusively in the Chinese market. The Sport Edition models are distinguished by Alcantara seats, red accents, and black exterior elements.

This Sport Edition is offered as either a battery electric vehicle (BEV) or a range extender hybrid, producing up to 255 hp in its electric version.

Update: Although Mazda has yet to confirm if the new mid-size EZ-6 Sport Edition will be available in Europe, the Japanese automaker has officially rolled out the electric sedan in China, along with pricing details.

The EZ-6 Sport Edition is available in four sub-trim levels, starting at ¥161,800 (around $22,500) for the extended-range (ER) “Smart Elegant” variant. The price increases to ¥171,800 ($23,900) for both the ER Extreme and Pure Electric Zhiga trims, culminating at ¥181,180 ($25,300) for the top-tier Pure Electric Supreme.

In comparison, the least expensive Mazda offered in the U.S. market is the 191-horsepower, compact Mazda3 Sedan, which begins at $24,150 before tax and destination fees.

Mazda's new creation is here, appearing even sharper than its predecessor. The 6e sedan previously featured elegant styling and a sophisticated interior, but needed a sportier appeal, akin to BMW’s M Sport trim. Mazda has answered this call with the new offering.

The EZ-6 Sports Edition, aimed at the Chinese audience, is the Asian designation for the vehicle known as the 6e in the West.

Additionally, the 2026 Mazda 6e EV has made its debut in Europe to compete with the Tesla Model 3.

With black exterior accents, glossy black 19-inch alloy wheels, and red brake calipers, the Sport Edition differentiates itself from the more subdued EZ-6 models. The sporty ambiance continues within, featuring Alcantara upholstery and red stitching details on the seats.

Mazda has introduced red lighting for the interior features and a mesh-look appliqué on the console, echoing the trim design used in sportier CX-60 variants. The standard features include a 14.6-inch infotainment screen found in other EZ-6/6e models, a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, and a 14-speaker Sony audio system, according to Car News China.

The Sport Edition was unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show last month but went unnoticed initially. While Mazda and Changan did not clarify if it has increased power compared to the standard sedan, it seems likely to be merely a trim enhancement. There are strong indications that Mazda will soon introduce a similar trim for the European 6e – Car News China notes that this Sport Edition was collaboratively developed by Mazda and Changan in China as well as Mazda Europe.

We have contacted Mazda Europe regarding the powertrain details, the potential Western availability of the Sport Edition, and its naming if it does reach this market, and we will update when more information is available.

A notable difference between the Chinese and Western versions will be the available powertrains, despite both models being produced at the same Changan facility. The EZ-6 in China can be equipped with either a 1.5-liter range-extender system generating 215 hp (218 PS / 160 kW) or a 255 hp (258 PS / 190 kW) all-electric option, while Europe’s 6e models are exclusively electric.
