A driver of a Shelby GT500 left a car meet but crashed after what started as a successful burnout.

The incident occurred with a clear road ahead and no apparent external distractions or obstacles.

Damage includes shattered wheels and a rear axle misaligned, giving it a crab-walk appearance.

It’s a familiar story: money doesn’t always equate to good judgment. This is evident in a recently released video of a Shelby GT500 driver attempting to depart from a Cars and Coffee event. They technically do leave, but they don’t get far. To make matters worse, it seems the owner has only had the car for a couple of months.

Captured towards the end of a meetup in Colorado on June 8, the GT500 is seen gearing up to leave with a cloud of smoke. As it revs, a voice can be heard, perhaps a well-meaning advisor, saying, “Oh, you better drive that right.” The car accelerates, producing a small amount of tire smoke, and then hits the rev limiter for a second or two.

Then, the car begins to lose control. It's unclear whether the driver aimed for more smoke or if they were unable to gauge their speed properly. Regardless, the car starts to fishtail slightly before the movements become more extreme. Ultimately, it jerks sharply to the left, the rear swings wide to the right, and the Mustang collides with the curb. From the driver's perspective, the damage appears minimal.

However, upon viewing the passenger side, the scene looks grim. The front wheel seems broken, and the tire is dislodged from the bead. There’s also damage to the front clip. The more significant concern may be the rear wheel, which is pushed outward, resembling Ford's "Crab Walk" feature.

      Here’s The Most Concerning Part

The car's decals seem to match those of a Shelby GT500 frequently showcased by a social media account on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. If this is indeed the same vehicle, the owner has had it for approximately two months. Nevertheless, they don’t appear to be completely inexperienced with high-performance cars.

Previous posts on the account have featured other high-end vehicles, including a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and a Ford F-150 Lightning. While they likely have some experience with powerful V8s, the Shelby may have proven to be more than they anticipated in this instance. Hopefully, this incident served as a valuable, albeit expensive, lesson.
