Despite the size disparity between the two trucks, the final result appears quite convincing.
A Thai shop has transformed the Toyota Hilux into a full-size Tundra replica featuring bold styling.
The build replaces most exterior components while maintaining the cabin and door framework.
The kit is compatible with seventh and eighth-generation Hilux models produced after 2012, requiring minimal alterations.
There are numerous ways to customize and accessorize a Hilux, but few transformations reach the extent of this one. Within the aftermarket pickup scene, Thailand may have created one of the most convincing mashups of a Toyota by turning the mid-size truck into a believable Tundra lookalike.
Although the Tundra is frequently seen on American roads, it isn't officially available in most Asian markets. This void led Icon Cars, located in Chonburi, Thailand, to reimagine the Hilux with a full-size appearance. The conversion kit is crafted to fit both the seventh-generation Hilux Vigo and the current eighth-generation Hilux Revo, provided the base vehicle was manufactured after 2012.
The only part of the Hilux that remains untouched is the center section of the body, which includes the doors, mirrors, greenhouse, and roof. Everything else has been replaced with custom body panels that closely mimic the Tundra’s appearance.
Some elements, such as the headlights and taillights, appear to be authentic Tundra components. The others have been resized and modified to fit the smaller Hilux chassis. This is quite an achievement when considering the size difference: the longest Tundra measures up to 252.5 inches (6,414 mm), while a Hilux reaches approximately 209.6 inches (5,325 mm).
The front end features a complete redesign, showcasing a large grille that captures the Tundra's characteristic style. At the rear, a sculpted tailgate and contemporary LED lighting continue the theme.
From the side view, it’s evident that the flared fenders and proportions indicate that this is not a factory-built full-size truck. Nevertheless, the wider stance and aftermarket wheels lend the truck a more rugged and aggressive appearance than any Hilux variant, including the GR Sport.
The enhancements extend beyond exterior modifications. Icon Cars also incorporates a suspension lift to increase ground clearance, enhancing off-road capability and matching the visual heft of the new body. However, the powertrain remains unchanged, featuring the standard 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel from the Hilux, which delivers good performance but doesn’t match the power of the Tundra's twin-turbo 3.4-liter V6.
In terms of pricing and availability, Icon Cars has informed Carscoops that the Tundra body kit for the Hilux Vigo and Revo starts at ฿350,000 (around $10,700), excluding the cost of larger wheels or any suspension modifications. For context, a new Toyota Hilux in Thailand ranges from ฿584,000 to ฿1,509,000 (approximately $17,900 to $46,200), depending on trim and specifications.
While this stands out as one of the more thorough transformations available, it is not the first appearance of a Tundra-inspired kit. Japanese tuner GMG Double Eight previously provided a simpler option, albeit resulting in a much less dramatic outcome.
